Hi all, has anyone had any experience of their engine (950S) cut dead while accelerating on an overtake?? Happened to me today , engine died (luckily not me) , lots of flashing lights on the dash. Coasted to a halt and selected N and reset off/on and the bike started back up and ran but with an Amber Engine warning light up. The bike ran ok home and is being picked up tomorrow by Glasgow Ducati to check diagnostics, watch this space, as they say...
There's a video somewhere of a 1200 Mutley doing this on the motorway, scary. IIRC a cause was eventually found. Have a search of the Multistrada section.
Ducati Glasgow called, there was a fault logged, even though the warning light had disappeared. It appears the there might be an issue with the throttle bodies / stepper motor??? The ecu had logged a throttle demand of 85% ( going for an overtake) but the throttle bodies only opened 9% . So all this info has been passed to Ducati and the dealer is awaiting instruction on the way forward. (still in warranty)..
I had an issue of my 1200 cutting out at high speed/hard acceleration (high vibration) It was the sidestand switch which I have now disconnected.
Yes. I found in some forums that several folk had issues with either side stand switches or Stop switches. If omly mine was that simple, it appears not. I don't think I'd do away with a safety feature like a side stand switch for all the cost it would be...
Well, last word I got from Ducati Glasgow was that they were replacing the throttle bodies assembly ???? I assume this is on the advice from Ducati after the discussion regarding the fault log readings..
Well, throttle bodies fitted "black box" fitted and now they have ordered an ECU , expected next week, after I was told they had ordered the bodies and ecu initially. Now approach a month they've had the bike, it's spent more time in the dealers than on the road since I've had it
Not good - well past the time to ask for a bike to use perhaps. Sounds a bit like 'swap things out until it works' mentality instead of a diagnosis and cure... As said above - definitely something on here about a multistrada doing the same thing within the last year.
Now all parts fitted , 950S has been rebuilt and "tested" , returned yesterday from G.D. still to give a home test... Only had it a month
Well, glad to report that the 950S appears good as new. Went for a good run yesterday up around Creiff / Aberfeldy. along Loch Tay to Killin and back to Falkirk. Tried the mode change and all is as should be. Hope there are no more "issues" with it.. A further, longer test will be carried out end of Aug. up to Plockton / Ullapool for a run around the West coast for a few days..
