Fancy Clutch For An 848

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Bonkers the Dog, Aug 30, 2020.

  1. Hiya,

As the title says I am after one of those fancy CNC, nicely coloured, caged clutches where you can see all the gubbins whirring around inside and people go "whoooo…".

Unfortunately I don't have a scooby about a) what they are. B) What they actually do. C) What I should be installing. D) Where to get them and what I should be paying!

A mate of mind mentioned something about "slipper clutches" but to be honest I just smiled and nodded sagely, man-sighed, made no comment but just stared off into the middle distance; we've all done it!

So I am looking for advice and if poss again nice piccies for me to drool over and to figure out how to run a flanker on the accountant, AKA - SWMBO!

    Cheers in advance

  2. I think the 848 has a wet clutch which means no fancy cage (or open clutch cover) and whirly pressure plate / springs for you as it stands.

I might be wrong but someone who has one will confirm.

For gawds sake don’t put a Ducabike clear clutch cover on (if they make one for 848s) though. Nasty. IMHO.

EDIT. You could fit a slipper though.

  3. You can get a dry clutch conversion for an 848 but big money for no gain other than it looks pretty ( for a normal road use ) think you need to find other pretty things on the 848

  4. I never knew the 848 had a wet clutch. As it’s basically the same bike as mine, just thought it would be the same dry clutch. I’ve a slipper on mine which does look great but unless you’re tracking it or you regularly corner very enthusiastically, while downshifting, I’m not sure you’ll ever notice the difference ;)

  5. Dealer conversion £1100 but don't think they are available anymore from DP

  6. Yahhhhhh….. I won't be spending £1100 on a clutch, SWMBO would castrate me!

Perhaps a nice CF cover to hide the OE grey thing that really doesn't look the best.

  7. Get a new missus and buy what you like :upyeah:

  8. So, checked the manual...(Man Score diminished) but it did say that the 848 has a dry clutch.

So its back to the original questions, so fire away!

  9. 848 is most definitely a wet clutch I'm afraid

  10. 848 is a wet clutch, never had a dry one unless converted.

  12. Well that all contradicts what the officially supplied owners manual says which would seem a bit odd, and a glaring f**king mistake! I shall check again...

  13. Take the clutch cover off and you get oily feet promise

  14. Well something is fishy in the State of Denmark, if you are all right and the manual is wrong that's a hell of a misprint.

I'll pass o P9070002.JPG n the cover removal plan, I just painted the garage floor!

  15. I shall use the above aide-memoir as a screensaver just to be sure, beautiful beach.

I just discovered the Conquest Racing Ltd site, oh my, LOL, splutter, babycham all over the monitor. Its a good job I was sitting down, I came over a little queer....

Perhaps the fancy see through clutch cover for nearly 1000 of your Earth pounds is a bit steep, I am still happily married at the moment! If I blew that kind of cash on a non essential visual orgasm the accountant might push back...perhaps we will start with something nice in carbon to go with all the other stuff, yessss…. discreet, lowkey, cheap.

  16. @Bonkers the Dog if it’s any consolation I have a 2009 Monster 1100S for which the Owners Handbook clearly states it has a wet clutch. No way. It’s dry. Lost in translation methinks.
