1260 New Satnav

  1. Have just tested mine in the kitchen sink, running the tap and flicking water at the screen whilst following a route in simulation mode.

    Hmmm, it does seem to have a problem with water droplets. To the extent that in my test it got so confused it locked up and would only respond to screen presses once it had been re-booted. How bad this will be in the real world remains to be seen as the 'fake rain' I was flinging at it were constant and in quantity. Behind the screen of the Mutley I would hope that it would be sufficiently shielded for this to be a non-issue. Only going to find that out by riding in foul weather.

    Shame I've sold my 590 as that would have been good to test against as it never had a problem though admittedly the screen was far less responsive.

    I do have an anti-glare screen protector fitted, though I would expect this to make the screen less prone to over sensitivity rather than more.

  2. I can add that this only occurs in very heavy rain, Light rain was fine. Peter (Rotax Racer) the thread starter was with me and his only did it once or twice. I have a standard screen with spacers, Pete has a different screen and mount. So might be the angle of the sat Nav and screen? I also have a Matt screen protector.
    I’m going to contact Garmin and do some more research.

  3. As Chris says mine only did it once or twice, I have an MRA Vario screen with Jamie’s spacers and an Evotech mount just for the record. I also have a Matte screen protector fitted.
     
  4. not sure if anyone else has had trouble finding out how to use some of the features in the Garmin Drive application with their Zumo XT ... like, I could not for the life of me figure out how to send an address from my iPhone contacts to the XT to navigate.

    well, after trying many times to google it, and looking on youtube for any videos ... i finally broke down and had an online chat on the Garmin site ... the tech support bot sent me this link, and i must admit, it is painfully easy, once one kno0ws how to use that feature.

  5. pretty sure most of what they have there I posted above, but there are a few differences.
    For a start, if I tap the address in my contacts (android - Samsung note 8) it doesnt open the 'open with' option, it goes straight to google maps. That is even if the G Drive app is open.
    This may well be down to settings somewhere.

  6. How bizarre. Sat Navs getting false inputs during dowpours and with screen interference.
     
  7. I've opted for the EP quad lock GPS mount and... Well a quad lock. I've got a Samsung S20 note ultra, so the screen is more than big enough. Once I get delivery of the bike I'll send some pics.
     
  8. Slightly off tack but I have a BMW Nav V1 which is a really nice piece of kit. Anyone know if I can connect direct to the multi cable connector? I can purchase the cradle but it has what look like might be BMW bespoke connectors. No mount either as far as I can see just the cradle. If not I’ll sell it and get something that will.
     
  9. The BMW nav has a connection to the twisty control thing inside of the left grip. I guess that's what all the extra wires are for, maybe to connected to some BMW audio too? If there's a red and black pair I'll wager, but not guarantee, that these are for power. Check that the Nav v1 is native 12v and not a USB powered Garmin too.
     
  10. My ZUMO XT has gone back for exchanging. Love the kit, but it’s reliability has been a joke, turning off for ne reason, constantly asking to play music from many phone and changing orientation without notice. Let’s hope the exchange is better.
     
  11. Yes, thanks, I forgot about the wheel working the sat nav. Probably the easiest option is to ebay it and get a different set up that works with the multi connector.
     
  12. I think the wheel just replicates functions on the sat nav and no reason why you can't use it with just a +/- 12v feed. Maybe a visit to the UKGSer forum is in order though you may come away with a faint whiff of boiled cabbage and urine...
     
  13. I used a Nav5 on my Multi before I got an XT, as Bumpkin says you just require the power supply, everything else works as normal but the functionality of the BMW bike info is lost.

    I sold my Nav5 and got more money than i paid for my XT so it worked out well for me.
     
  14. Went on you tube to see how to connect Sat Nav to bike, it showed a cable connector installed by Ducati that you just connect your nav wires to without connecting to battery. Having removed the black “Ducati” fairing piece LHS (more of that later) I cant see any connecting wires like those shown in the video. Has this been removed for the 20 bike anyone know? Or am I a bit of a wet lettuce!
     
  15. The connectors should be there, close to the headstock. As a sports tourer with a sat nav and bracket in the accessories catalogue it wouldn't make any sense to stop including it.

    They'll have a corresponding blanked off tail plugged onto them. The smaller of the two is the sat nav socket. Use the tail, soldering and heat shrinking this to the power lead for your sat nav.
     
  16. Yep, as Bumpkin says. Look for a small white connector, and then the other side just going into 2 wires (quite short) that are taped up (black tape I think). Disconnect at the white connector, solder your sat nav wires up to the tail, and plug back in and route everything to be tidy.

  18. Thank you guys. I'll have another look tonight and if I can't fathom it I'll post pics. I have to say I'm not the most technical person on this forum so its probably just me.
