Afternoon all, Been a long time since I posted anything, have been over in Fireblade land for the last 7 years but as age progresses so does my thinking its time to step off the sportbike. So spotted this at DMC Stoke, had a word with them low mle and fitted Akras and QS, just wondered if anyone on here had seen it in the shop or knows about it https://www.ducatistoke.co.uk/inventory-detail.php?id=10254 A mate on here has a S model with a Termi which is a great looking bike, been offered a decent px on mine against it so just thinking about it now and watching a few reviews online, which I have to say are very favourable. Thanks Dave
That it is cheaper than the two similar SS’s I’m currently looking at. Both 17 plate, 1 with the Akrapovic and 1 decked out with a touring pack, both with marginally higher mileage. The equivalent with the Akrapovic is £2k more. Andy
I have loved my Supersport for the last 3 plus years. Very comfortable machine and has done over 30,000 kms now. The quick shifter is a must on these bikes in my opinion, but I don't like the Akra exhaust at all and fitted the Termi to mine.
They are the only modern Ducatis I really like the look of, but having owned a 750Sie and 900SSie, I wonder of the rear suspension has any more compliance than the old bikes. I found the SSie bikes actually less comfortable than my 748s.
I bought my super sport (non S) in December, it made me fall in love with biking again. I’ve just done a little shy of 1700 miles in 6 days on a Scottish trip. Mine has heated grips and a QS, the QS is ace and I wouldn’t want to be without one now. It’s a great bike, light, nimble and comfortable, I’m just shy of 6 foot and I find it comfortable.
Have to say I don't like the sound of QS. Surely it's only going to be any use on the track or the 'open road', and that represents a smaller and smaller proportion of riding on Britain's crowded roads. It's not going to be any use in traffic, is it? Never had a prob doing clutchless up-changes (and the occasional down-change)on Ducatis anyway. I do note, though, that everyone seems to think it's a great idea. But re-programming 40 years of biking habit doesn't sound easy to me.
40+ years for me too. Try one and you'll find that it is used in everyday riding. Try one and you'll want one.
Fair enough, Bob. I suspect my bike-buying days are over, though, so it probably remain a pipe-dream. Actually, just remembered there was one other point I meant to raise. What about slipper clutches? it seems to me that quick-shifters, to some extent, are designed to overcome drawbacks that slipper clutches also address. Does that mean that slipper clutches are, if you will, an evolutionary cul-de-sac, replaced by a better engineered alternative? Or are they still here. Are the clutches on new Ducatis conventional or slipper? I might add that I am one of those who, despite its regular criticism, rather likes the basic Ducati dry clutch. IMO it offers smoother changes than almost any other clutch, whilst being simple to inspect and maintain for even the novice home mechanic.
I find the QS really useful, I don’t tend to use it at low speed but when I want to “press on” it’s great. I’ve only used the down shift once, wasn’t keen on that, worried about the rear locking, unless of course I was using it wrong. Also the exhaust note using the QS is addictive!
Ok Bob, it just felt odd when I tried it, only tried it once may need to try again. Should it ever stop raining!
Hi guys, Thanks for replies, sadly they called me Saturday to say someone had bought it via Ebay on Friday night so I missed out. Will continue looking, to be honest with the extras and mileage and price, did not expect it to hang around long but given I am not local, did not want to put a deposit down....... Oh well Dave
You say extras, do you mean that ugly exhaust? They gave those away for free with many bikes. I have seen newish ones from dealers for less than £10k.
