  1. Where did you get your gennie from?

    Oh, Clarke. I will investigate.

  2. At least we will know when he has a power cut as there won't have been any new posts about fishy future heat o_O

  4. It would have come from there originally, but I'm a cheapskate and brought it used.

  8. I assume that I'll need to make a lead with a 13 amp socket and each end? I was thinking that I would turn off the main power switch in the junction box and have this plugged in. I'll need to so a bit of investigation because I have a feeling that I have two rings, so, if I have it plugged in next to my Fischer unit then the other ring will still be dead. I need to do some investigation - or move to Bolivia!

If you want to run sensitive tech from it like a desktop, laptop, telly etc, you'll need better tech than that one unfortunately.
You need something that puts out a cleaner supply like the inverter sets.

  10. Why not move to Gas for the heating - that way - you can always have a choice if 1 supply goes out. Light the stove - have heat and light.

For the computer and router and maybe microwave - buy a large UPS....

Plus you can also buy rechargeable lights.

  11. We used to suffer from frequent and prolonged power cuts, normally just before a weekend, family event, Christmas etc..

So I spent a grand on a giant diesel generator, fat cable to the house, mains off switch, gen to house link and a stockpile of red diesel.

Have not had a power cut since, not even a flicker.

  12. You should add up, in W, what you need to run off it Perry, 1100w doesn’t go far when you put your microwave on. You may find it’s phone/internet or microwave, not both.

Also, you’ll have to use gas to boil a kettle as an electric kettle is 2.5-3kw. Oh, wait, you do still have a gas supply don’t you :D?

  13. I think that without investigating my two ring main routes, without spending hundreds of pounds on equipment, I am fooked.

I will try -without hope - a letter to the MP to see if she can put more pressure on Western Power.

  15. We survive on the 1Kw gennie, but only because we cook with Gas and boils pan of water on the stove for Tea/Coffee.
We also have lots of Camping gear around the house, including cooking equipment and rechargeable lights.

  16. PL, don't let the others taking the piss annoy you, I feel your pain.

Think how much better off you and I will be for our experience when these city boys can't last 10mins without their home comforts when the infrastructure
of the county breaks down this winter.
