Ok, splashed petrol all over the screen on my new 13 model and totally foooked it up. So, as I have been a regular complainant of the ongoing windscreen issues I decided to purchase the American designed Calski version. At the same time I bought the new Shoei GT Air as a birthday prezzie as I have convinced myself that the helmet is a huge factor in all this. Well, I was right. It's absolutely fantastic on both counts. The screen works brilliantly, up to 50mph its like being in your front room putting your feet up. All you can here is what you should do, the engine and the QD pipes. Not a hint of buffeting and the air flows straight over the helmet. The helmet itself is fabulous. It's really tight around the neck area and doesn't let any air and therefore noise up at all. The vents work really well and and you can feel the cool air running from the top of your forehead and down the back and out through two invisible slots at the base of the helmet. I would still recommend earplugs because when you reach the top of legal limits the noise does up a little as you would totally expect but it really is a winning combination and I would recommend it to everybody. Oh, and the drop down sun visor is great. Its polarised so it's like wearing your favourite shades. Really bloody chuffed about this and now to pack for the Alps on Wednesday.
I also recently replaced my helmet with a GT Air. I do find that it fogs up very quickly, and you cannot leave it cracked like the older Shoei's. I am replacing my screen this week with a PP CF screen, as part of the issue I have found is that the screen blocks the airflow to the bottom vent. I wanted to get a shorty screen anyway as the wind noise drives me mad.
Fit the pinlock. It fogs up without because the seal is so good. The fact that it is supplied as standard shows how important it is.
so which size of calsci screen did you go with ? My mate has the medium touring one, which looks like a barn door but apparently works well.
I may try that, although I commute and ride in the dark, in which it apparently does not work very well.
I've always used pinlocks, no problem in the dark, but they're quite soft so to clean them run them under the tap, if you wipe them when there's grit on there they scratch.
