  1. Don't worry as you're on their christmas card list.

  2. Shit, man, glad you and the pup are OK.

Need to make sure of carbon monoxide alarms too.

  3. Busy evening.

You think you were lucky but you made your luck. You had smoke alarms.
Great that you had them. A lesson for us all.

    Glad you’re ok.

  4. Glad you are safe. Hopefully some lessons learned.

  5. Glad you’re ok Zhed, due to the extensive smoke it’s probably worth changing the smoke alarms and consider radio replacements, if one activates it sets the other one off immediately. You must have been a cat in a previous but I think your 9 are probably expired :)

  8. Lucky for you that is a UK firework so always a fair chance it wont ignite. Imagine if it had been made by The Incendiary Firework Co in Japan, you`d be toast !

  9. the amount of times my old man nearly set the place on fire with an open fire with a long log sticking out of the hearth pushing it in a bit further as it burnt down ...well till the daft sod falls asleep that is
burns on the carpet galore i laugh now but god close calls
damn lucky escape +1 for smoke alarms especially in older houses and with open wood beams etc
think i would invest something a little more fire retardant than a wicker basket for burnable items lol
and a couple of decent fire extinguishers not something that most people think about at home only the work place but believe more fire related incidents at home
glad you ok and its minimum / cosmetic damage damage
could have been a lot worse could have been your bike

  10. Lmao. From what I’ve heard, the people who set it up are the same ones who had me on block on here, so I find that unlikely ;)

  11. A stark reminder of what can so easily happen, even when reasonable precautions are usually taken. That said, smoke alarms are a must have and also do need to be checked in terms of proper functioning, by all of us. Something that probably not many of us do and I include myself in that group.
Really glad that you and your doggy chum came off best this time. Be sure to ensure this good fortune continues and glad that you seem to be pretty much 'intact'.....:upyeah:

  12. I generally don’t keep the basket full of paper or near to the fire. I was just using it to temporarily hold the confidential waste paper I intended to feed into the mini dustbin based incinerator (which I’d put in the fireplace), but as it was over half full and the air holes were blocked I couldn’t get it lit.......or so I thought! o_O

  13. Don’t believe everything you hear, would be bad listening to the trumps in this world, only one way to find out, but you are right, there is always people who play the man, not the ball, differences of opinion are cool, that’s makes for interesting conversation, if only it could be done with respect for other people and the way they think.

  14. Sounds like a momentary lapse of common sense. ;):):)

Seriously though, glad you and the puppy are ok and not too much damage, scary how quickly things could go wrong.

  15. Nah. Speaker’s Corner isn’t as active at the moment because several of its most prolific posters have set up shop elsewhere but it’s also now largely free of the toxicity that characterised it until recently (I’m not ascribing blame btw - as at least some of it was six of one and half a dozen of the other). But in any case, even if I did want to join, one forum is quite enough of a time-thief in my life without going looking for more distractions!

I watched “The Social Dilemma” a few weeks ago and tbh it opened my eyes to how social medias’ shit-stirring algorithms are herding us all into polarised and extreme positions, dividing friends, families and in this case, forums, solely for the benefit of their shareholders and advertisers and tbh I don’t really want any part of that anymore.

  16. Blimey!, well done for not panicking and for dealing with it swiftly.

  17. Blimey - just caught up with this!
Glad you and your pooch (and house) are okay.

  18. dont worry we all dont count the near misses
anyone not made a mistake never did anything
not doing something about a mistake is the stupid mistake
we all think it happens to other people but we are all other people to other people lol
sit down have a beer etc and dont worry about what didnt happen
