Hey, guys at first I beg my pardon for my English and thank you for letting me join this forum. Second- I have this dilemma and need advice on it. In Norway, where I live, a brand new 1260 Enduro costs like 30K if we calculate in US dollars. I could buy a 2017 Enduro with the same accessories and just 6K miles on a clock, for 20K. How big is a difference riding them both? I know the specs etc, but is that much of a difference? should I go for a brand new one or hands-down save the cash? I know there is a V4s, but I don't think I am into it, cause I love that big tank in front of me. One more thing, did 2016 and 2017 have any differences I should be aware of? Cause I have an opportunity to get a 2016 model with bearly a 3700 miles on it and the same price. Any help is appreciated! I am not looking for the enduro cause I am planning to go offroading, I am just a tall guy (6.4) and I like tall bikes. Had 2018 and 2020 Africa Adventure sports which are gone now and I am looking for a more powerful and fun one. Thank you all!
One issue with the older bike would be a lack of warranty cover. (£10k buys a lot of repairs though) I’ll leave other with Enduro experience to make more comments
Hi and welcome I’ve had my 1260 Enduro for over a year now and don’t really take it off road as it’s so big and heavy. What it is however is a superb touring bike with its comfortable riding position, great handling and power and 300 mile (500km) fully fuelled up range. Like you I did look at the 1200 Enduro and the dealer I bought my 1260 from had a brand new 2018 model on the shop floor but the price difference wasn’t that great so I opted for the newer bike as I think the 1260 engine is an improvement over the old 1200. Both are great bikes so good luck with whichever one you choose.
Never ridden a 1260, but I went from a 1200 pre-DVT S to a 1200 Enduro and I doubt very much that you will be able to notice 'massive' amounts of differences between the engines? All depends how important $10k is to you and if you are bothered by depreciation as a % of initial (to you) purchase price. Oh and for me, the 1200 E has proven to be a superb tourer, comfy and refined enough, but mine is fully loaded with Satnav, boxes, heated grips, cruise control etc.
That's exactly what I am gonna be using it for. Long tours to Europe and commuting. So it will be fully loaded, minus sat nav. 10K... well it's a good chunk of money and I am just thinking is it that much of a difference? Would be really cool to find somebody who went from 1200E to 1260E. Cause if that is close- I go for 1200E. I see some riders talking about some slack of power in a mid-range. Do you notice that, or it doesn't even bother you? Thank you for taking your time to answer
I have a '16 1200, great bike, no lack of midrange power discernable for me. It's a strong engine, no doubt about that. Haven't ridden the 1260, no real desire to.
Oh and no issues with it so far either, it's had the recalls, but I've only put 2k miles on it, it's at nearly 12000 now.
Hey, Edward, Do you remember what was the recalls for? O maybe somebody knows where could I check for that? Thanks for the reply!
Ummm, there was a coolant pipe replacement, something to do with the rear shocker, and a remote key fob replacement.
I found the standard seat to be fairly bad however, I'm 6'5" with long legs. Mainly because it shoves you forward towards the tank. Had mine rebuilt for £90 and it's massively better.
Thanks, I gonna check was that done before I gonna buy one. I've heard about the key fob and the rear shock, the coolant pipe is new for me. You are about my height so I might ask your advice or contacts for the seat upgrade when it will be needed It's hard to find a comfortable seat for me, so I know I will have to do some upgrades.
The man that did my seat has closed down unfortunately but there are a few people around that do them. Mine was remodelled so it doesn't push me forward, the rear of the pilot seat flattened and a gel pad added.
I had a 1200S (DVT)and now have a 1260 Enduro, the 1260 engine definitely has a stronger mid range. The 1200 had a dead spot in the mid range that you could notice sometimes out of corners, but not something that should stop you from buying one. If you go for the 1200, make sure it has the uprated airfilterbox/lid, my 1200 had dirt passing the filter.
For me the 1260 is a better engine. It’s not life changing though and the difference is a lump of cash. Mine were both Pikes Peak so there’s a load of chassis difference too. I don’t know if the Enduro changed anything other than the engine. I didn’t notice any flat spots on my 1200, but rode with different gearing straight after run in, so I’m maybe not the best to give an opinion. With the amount of money you could save, I’d be tempted to go for the 1200. You can always upgrade to the 1260 at a later date.
It’s not lack of power. It just explodes after the 6000 rpm. Took the cat off which sorted the midrange at a hefty price and noise but the main reason was heat. 1260s I tried but could not feel any difference or improvements in the engine department. Recalls as said were the key fob, the water pipe and shock. I also suffered an engine leak from a 5p part, the keyless lock got jammed and had to recover the bike and inoperative left switchgear. All these during the first year. It’s now 4 years old with 34000 with no more problems. Did the desmo a month ago an it’s as strong as ever. 2016 model.
I thought the Enduro seat was really comfortable when I test ride one, better than the standard multi
Thank you all guys for taking the time and answering the questions. Even some are not with an Enduro, it still helps with understanding about the engine. All help is appreciated. I am getting close to a decision to go for 1200 Enduro. Unless towards the spring there is not gonna be any on the market. Coming from Africa Twin it will be a huge improvement with the power, no questions asked
