Must Find Another Bike.

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Arquebus, Nov 1, 2020.

  1. Will be ok for the lanes Al

  2. Definitely not daft if it’s something you’ll be comfortable riding as and when you can.

Being an old Brit bike it’s bound to need a bit of tinkering too. :)

  3. Plenty of them with mud and hoss-shite around here, Viv.
My only reservation is the engine is only 197cc; magneto / points ignition and 6 Volt....no battery.
Probably the cheaper option to converting the bike to 12 volt with electronic ignition, regulator and battery, is to find a complete, good 250 engine.

  4. Sounds perfect to me :)

  5. Low seat trials bike, good price...?
Suzuki RL250 Beamish design, brilliant bikes. No lights so either fit them of daytime MOT, which it will be exempt anyhow... Asking £1250, I bet you'd get it for £1100.

Theres an actual badged beamish for a few quid more

  6. I'm still trying to get the price down......in some ways I would prefer a lightweight 1957 British bike to a Jap dirt bike.

But I will have to go back many years to get my feet working on the opposite pedals!

  7. That's a bugger Al, I let my Greeves and Cotton go about a month ago, The Cotton would have suited you a minter. Swapped them for a Triumph Thunderbird 1958.

  8. I used to have a Greeves Hawkstone (when my legs were a bit longer and stronger) but I am a front brake merchant, so I never stayed on dirt bikes very long......Yes, the Cotton might well have been OK.

Update....I have walked away from the trials bike...I couldn't even get a minor concession as regards price, although he would have delivered it FOC as he is only a few miles away. Although it is pretty immaculate some parts aren't original and some things need doing; so given the prices of others that exist, I think his price is about 15% too high.

  17. Thanks.......but My God, that is rough......not sure about that engine either......is it really an RD350 lump....the engine casings appear to have no 'YAMAHA' casting on them.
I have been looking at a CS3 Yam (at the same asking price as the bid) which needs doing up, but also another Yam which costs more, but doesn't appear to need much if anything doing to it......I am waiting for info from the seller.

    Thanks, AL

  18. There are another two that have popped up today. One is definitely rough...

The previous one I posted does have awful paint, but the engine is running, which is a massive plus on a 45 year old bike!

  19. Hi there Al. Long time no hear and all that. Sorry to hear of your health issues, but getting another bike is always a tonic!

Recently I have been playing around with small capacity Italian things. A pal of mind bought a 150cc MV Agusta as well as a 175 Gilera, and I bought a 1954 200cc Mondial Extra Lusso. The remarkable thing about all of them is the difference in weight and ease of handling in comparison with the SS series of Ducatis which I have been riding for the last 20 years.

There's much to like, they are all very 'Italian' some spares are a pain, but if aesthetics and mechanical novelty are your thing, then something similar might be worth a look.
