  1. Hi folks

My ecu shorted a while back on my second gen 749s, so rather than one fan staying on, I'm going to put them on a manual switch, they are currently disconnected.

The bike is running like a champ, so rather than buy a new costly ECU this is a better option I think. My mech guy will wire switch into air duct on right/ left fairing - nowhere else to put it.

See attached pic, this switch will do the job?

9 quid on ebay, uk seller .

  2. All you have to do is run a wire from the middle pin wire of the diagnostic connector to a negative on the battery, frame or engine. That will sort your fan problem.

  3. Hi @chrisw

    Cheers mate. Appreciate response!

With your above suggestion, fans will then work as normal when temp rises?

  4. Yes. You have damaged an internal earth in the ECU. The mod is a work around to get things working as they were. Fans will work as before when triggered by temp.

  5. Connecting supply leads wrong way round on duc port to OBD adaptor one way of doing this iirc..... o_O

  6. @chrisw Thanks v much for confirming, my duck guy does the servicing & the ECU shorted a week or so after I got a big service Jan gone i think it was.

    I owe you a beer or 2 :upyeah::upyeah::cool:

@Gerr nice one for the probable cause too.....will never know at this stage o_O:upyeah:

  7. Chris W is the expert..... I'm merely a Klutz.... I've used these adaptors years ago when using JP diag on my old S2r....... I remember tales of woe and someone doing this and taking out ecu... but my memory a little shady....I can't remember exactly.... but I think a protection diode goes short and takes a track out in the ecu.... not sure.....

  8. There are also little gems like this for about £5. Operates at 12V and settable as you like, with onboard switching of about 10A DC. Look for 'HW-557' (typo ammended)

  9. THANK YOU @chrisw

Your fixed worked perfectly. My duck mech guy was a little miffed as he is working on these years etc. But was happy it worked too, and is going to look further into the ECU etc to understand it.

  11. Looks like I didn't upload the image the first time...

Doh! Sorry - typo error - should have been HW-557 as per the image above. I have a PDF 'manual' too but I'm having trouble uploading here on my phone. The manual should pop up when you search, but if you can't find it drop me a PM and I'll email it.

  12. Brilliant, found it now. Thanks for that.
