I decided to strip down my Multistrada 1000 and try to fix it's faults and tidy it up over winter when i came to remove the tank i found it had swollen and the fuel pump was catching on the frame and preventing removal so i took the pump off and the tank came off. i spoke to nelly a few years back about swollen tanks and he mentioned the theory that storing the tank in a warm place like next to radiator or airing cupboard would help leach out the contaminents that swelled the tank. my tank is off so im going to try this out but was wondering if anyone else had tried this before and if they had any results from it? Thanks
My Daytona has a plastic tank & on the forum I go on people with these bikes have had similar problems with swelling tanks. Concencious of opinion seems to be to drain the tank & dry out out & it will shrink back to it's former self ! Go to say I've never tried this, but it's got to be worth a try. I really try to use fuel with no ethanol in, which we can get in my neck of the woods, according to Esso.
I think that there's also a sealant that can be applied to the inside of the tank to help prevent further absorption.
IIRC, both Caswell and POR 15 do an ethanol proof sealer and at one time they both made counter claims in their literature as to whose was the best product. I’ve used POR 15 on a steel tank and it did what it said on the tin. I did look into Caswell for my 1098 but bought a new tank in the end. Andy
