Cocoon/bubble

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Steve Whitton, Dec 7, 2020.

  1. Does anyone have a bike bubble or cocoon suitable for a 1098 Ducati they no longer use that they are willing to sell
    Thanks
    Steve

  2. Recon there be lots of bubbles going free once we’ve seen the back of covid.

  8. Which make and model is that one ?

  9. Steve @baylissboy had one for his Bayliss 1098R. Maybe he can shed some light...

  10. I've got two of them, one for my Ducati Streetfighter & another for my R1M track bike (used to house my 1098R Bayliss), can't recommend them enough.....absolutely brilliant!!

  11. I'd go for the one that is "red" all over, not the see through one, the clear plastic sometimes cracks, the material one is much better.

  12. Got hold of a clear plastic one from a guy on the forum, could really do with another one now for the SP3 if anyone has one

  13. I would like to comment and question other’s experience with the cacoon. I bought one for my multistrada as it was stored in a timber garage in Devon where there was a significant problem with condensation. I thought the cacoon would be ideal - dry and protected from dust. However it didn’t quite work out that way.

I inflated my first one in a cold garage and as it expanded micro cracks developed in some of the clear material causing gradual leakage with the inflator on. Not sure why, but I think it had been in the shop a while and the material was a bit brittle for that approach. I exchanged it and put up the new one in the house after unfolding and allowing warming up to occur. Inflation successful - and they do look good!

After a few days however I noticed that the MS had quite a bit of condensation on it. I was puzzled initially but suspected that the device was inflating the cacoon with damp garage air and blowing it on to the MS causing condensation in the usual way. I ended up removing the cacoon and getting a dehumidifier which worked better for my situation.

I now know keeping things in the right environment is more tricky than I had realised and if I face the same situation again (I’ve moved house), I would go for some sort of sealed atmosphere approach with dried air. The internet has a lot of discussion.

I think my experience was unusual - the cacoon is an attractive device and gets good reviews. I would think when used in a drier environment I am sure it is great. If there was a way of drying / warming the air before inflating that would help, but add to the complexity. Has anyone had a similar experience?

    thanks!

  14. Hasn't everyone got a lounge?

Joking aside, who has used the vac bag? Did the condensation still form?

  15. Yes, I've used one. No condensation. Once you put the bike in, you chuck in a supplied Drysorb bag to absorb what little moisture there may be after you vacuum the air out, meaning there is no/very little air with moisture to have a differential temperature with the bike surface and once the bag is sealed any fluctuation in temperature will only affect the outside surface of the bag. However, more importantly, once sealed, it requires no maintenance, uses no electricity, chemicals, solar panels, wind or wave power to continue to do its job and that job's a good'un.

  16. I’ve got a carcoon that I’d consider parting with. I’m debating whether I continue to use it or a dehumidifier in the garage. I’m running out of room in the garage due to too many bikes so considering making some room.
