Insurance shock!

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by canary man, Jun 6, 2013.

  1. BTW, just got a quote from MCE and it came out to £1925 per year.... at least right now I'm paying about £1000...

  2. Been down this road with Bennetts, who had happily insured my Termi's for 3 years then this year will not insure me. Say it's the insurers policy (Highway)

Go to Ducati insurance who happily insure anything mod wise and the cost is £120 less and the insurer is.... Highway who i was with before. Ducati insurance say Bennetts are full of poo and just don't want to insure modded bikes.

Glad i left feel much happier away from that shower.

  3. Just going to mention Carole Nash on here only because no one else has.
I've just added a new Diavel to my insurance for the princley sum of £19 for 9months AND I told them about the Termignoni - "just a optional extra add on offered by Ducati".

  4. and here i am griping because my 916 insurance set me back £130 full comp...!

  5. Mine is due next month-Swinton quoting 258 for renewal (61 yrs old. 5 yrs NCB, held full licence for 45 yrs, country-dweller and MTS 1200 kept in locked garage, SDP cover)
comparison sites give cheapest at 170 but extras (legal, recovery, clothing etc) bring it up to the 250 mark.
tried LV on off chance-they insure my car, house and contents. Having been offered bike insurance as Special Offer being a current client, I was pi&&ed off to go through the whole rigmarole then be turned down! "We don't insure that type of motorcycle"!
ducati insurance are offering cover at 200- with Equity Red Star-may go with them-any observations about them?

  6. Lol, and i thought 148 quid was alot for 2 bikes  Thats tpft, protected no-claims and £200 excess. Bennetts(underwriters Equity Red Star). Been with them for years and no problems at all.

  7. I insured couple weeks ago with Carole Nash for £172 fully comp £350 excess
This includes breakdown cover and home start, legal protection, DNA, and European cover

  8. And underwritten by equity red star too

  9. Renewed my insurance from June 1st, cheaper than last year because of lower value. Got seduced by the new twin spark engine Multistada last Saturday so bought one. Changed insurance today, extra £26 because of value, new bike etc, no complaints there but plus around £44 admin. When I asked it was partly for Ducati Insurance admin, ok someone has to press computor keys and send paperless docs to me I suppose. The rest is broker admin and according to the guy on the phone it was to pay for "opera singers and mearcats!!!" Made me very happy.

  10. MCE told me if I renew the insurance with them again next year will get 15 months for the price of 12. Happy days

  11. Strangely enough Equity Red Star via Bennets were the underwriters that refused to insure the Monster now with Termi's that was mentioned at the start of this thread!

  12. get that in writing now, along with name of the monkey who said it.........................

  13. That's what I got, 15 months for 12 with mce they are good but keep an eye on your voluntary excess as it can be quite high

  14. For all of you that have European breakdown cover get them to send you full terms and conditions of it, not extract, and read small print.

There are restrictions on age, value, maximum repair value, then maximum recovery value. Tie that in to how much they charge to recover to see if they would if you were to for example brake down in Germany.

  15. I would sooner ride around without insurance than pay one penny to bennets . I was hit in the side by a u turning taxi and they decided to go 50/50 . At the renewal I found that they had taken all of my 60% no claims bonus so off I went else where . after cancelling . only to find that the maximum they were allowed by law to take was 20% . This sorted I find out four months later that they had taken the payment anyway by automatic renewal. I won my court case with the taxi driver and , eventually , got my money + returned from barstards .

  16. Equity Red Star are a ball ache. I wanted to change one of my other bikes, Honda CBF1000 Mk1 to a new Mk2... They wouldn't insure me on the current policy. Devitts (broker) naturally wanted to sell me a new policy. Didn't swap the bike and bought some more carbon for the SF1098 instead.

  17. I've just been having a little look on-line cos my insurance will be due in about a months time.

Carole Nash who I'm with now (and have been for around 18 years cos they always manage to come good in the end) has quoted £423 F/C with £400 excess & £150 voluntary excess. This includes NCB protection and helmet and leathers cover.

Ducati Insurance has come in at £323 with £250 excess & £150 voluntary excess. This includes NCB protection and helmet and leathers cover.

I've not started shopping around properly. CN will need to get their finger out if they want to keep me this time.

  18. I've just insured my Laverda with Bennetts as they were by far the cheapest. My experience with them is that they are very helpful and knowledgeable.
The Laverda has Termis as standard, by the way...
Best way to get cheap insurance? Live to be over 50 - I was amazed how much cheaper it got !

  19. Bloody hell, I've been riding 3 years and pay less than that.

  20. I had someone write my car off two years ago and then six months after that another twat reversed into my new car causing £1500 of damage whilst I was stationary

Never had a claim on my bikes though, so far, thank god
