strange oil leak (749)

  1. so mines a 05 749s, ive only manage a few track days on it since buying last year. but at my last one at snetterton in august-ish time i had a little bother.
started it up in the morning to warm it up and get it through the gestapo sound test( pass by the way at 102, pheww). go for the sighting lap and get round the first lap and the oil light comes on and it dies. i pull up off the track and pull the oil sensor cable off and on again and it started and that was that, no worries. the only thing i noticed later on in the day was a very small oil leak coming from the bottom of my clutch cover and running onto the fairing.
today ive pulled the clutch cover off to find no oil residue inside the clutch housing apart for the very bottom housing bolt, seem to be coming from there. rather baffled as that bolt is just to secure the cover. any suggestions ?

  2. Have you had the basket out? If it's leaking from the gasket behind this it would just run down and show up at the bottom.
Whilst you're at it, that bearing looks none too healthy. That can lead to all sorts of issues as the push rod could be spinning & damaging various O-rings, leading to leaks as you describe.

  3. +1 on changing that pressure plate bearing out!

My SS had the same leak a few months back? Oil dripping from the holes in the bottom of the clutch cover...

Pop your pressure plate off - there is a tiny grey seal just before the pushrod roller bearing, these fail:

Easy swopout! Renew both pushrod o-rings whilst you are there...

    Simples. :upyeah:

  4. Thanks guys most appretiated !!!

  5. Hmmm This might explain oil I have on my rear brake lever that I cannot find the source of.

  6. Possibly?

Sh!t myself at first as I thought the huge seal behind the clutch basket had gone? Easy fix though! :)

  7. Well , all seal including big one behind clutch changes , found out clutch plates and basket were nackered. Valve shims checked and slightly altered . And finally running far to dangerously lean so new powercommander and custom map being done. It's been an expensive day!!

  8. The seals won't have cost much but what was up with the plates & basket, just wear & tear?

  9. Looking at your first picture the basket looks quite good I can't see any grooves. Just look at the grooves on 470four's first basket.

  10. Yeah the plates were pretty worn down and had some slight oil residue on them and I didn't see the basket but I beleive it was nackered too. Looking forward to a sunny may and silverstone

  11. So.... New clutch fitted ad basket, but clutch seemed to slip on pull away and then grab quite aggressively. Only on pull away though , no slipping at speed I think anyway, any ideas??

  12. Who did the work? Are the plates in the correct order and the stack height correct?

  13. Dave wood in Aylesbury did the work. He defo knows what he's doing . Rode at Bedford yesterday and still seems to do it on harder pull aways. I've spoken to him he's says to bring it back in for a check. Also got a problem with the nuetral light to now :(
