Multistrada Fork Noise

  1. Bought an ex dem Multistrada 1200ST a few weeks back with only 750 miles on clock. I love it but go over a bump or hit the front brakes and I get a rather worrying clunking noise like something is loose. I took it back to dealer who said its a known problem with the electronic Ohlins and will look at it under warranty. So I booked it in for repair and spoke with the service guy. He says the "shim" does not always fix the noise and I may just have to live with the noise. Now I dont want to put up with the noise and I cannot believe that either Ohlins or Ducati would be happy to have their kit ratle about like this. Also when I try to sell the bike anyone test riding it will run a mile - they may think the wheels gonna come off - I did! Any one else with this problem and what did you do about it. I want to know if I can demand new shocks.

  2. So you haven't got the shim kit yet? So how do you know it won't work? If the noise continues then you can then ask for new forks

  3. You are right Freak. I dont know if it will work or not. But the guy at the dealership said I should not expect it to work as it often doesnt. And yes I will try and get new forks.

  4. I have a 2012 Pikes Peak and it has been to the dealer twice for the front-end rattle. The preload has been shimmed twice but that annoying rattle is still present. As of today, I am told that Ohlins claims that this "clicking" is a normal sound of the valve opening and closing at the bottom of the fork. I told the owner of my dealership that I am not happy. Unfortunately, neither Ohlins nor Ducati are offering me new forks. I am picking it up tomorrow and plan on riding for a bit to see if there is any progress. My next step will be to get agressive for new forks under warranty. It is way to expensive an investment for this type of performance. Anyone have any luck getting new forks under warranty would be appreciated.

  5. is the noise a knock from high up on the top yoke? my bikes only just done 1000 miles and took it for a mild off road jaunt, and was aware of some noise form top of the forks, the bikes only 3 months old is there a known problem? and should I get it checked

  6. It sounded to me like the knock was coming from high up but my tech tells me he placed a stethoscope on the tube and the sound is coming from the base where the dampening rod meets the valve. Getting it out tomorrow so we will see. If you look at the forums, this is a pervasive issue with the 2012 mts with ohlin suspension. From my perspective, the oem's response has been subpar
