899 Is A 959 Worth The Money Or Will A 899 Be Fine

  1. So with a few 748’s, 916’s and a 999s the Pani pops up in my head now and then but recently more frequent....

    About 150bhp are more than enough for me so a 1198 or more is really not required and even maybe unwanted although I really like the single side swing arm.

    So because I’m from the classics, any advice on these beauties? Here in the Netherlands there’s about 1500,- between a low mileage 899 and a 959 with 10kmls.

    Are there any general issues with these of specific issues?

  4. Very little different between the 899 and 959 in real world settings. The 959 has slightly better wind protection and a much lighter clutch (its also a slipper clutch) but while it has more power it also has a fair bit more weight, so I’d go for the cleanest example of either that you can

  5. Thanks Phill, that’s often an advice I give myself as well but thanks for the confirmation. It could have been the case that there were some upgrades for the 959 that would make it the better bike although a slipper clutch is nice.

    I’ll keep the 899 on the list, hopefully I can be patient enough to buy the right one
     
  6. 899 is a better sounding number. Also those stock 959 cans are a warcrime. 899 has folding mirrors. Once the Euro4 drag is factored in they’re essentially the same bike, nearly all the parts are the same, I’ve had my 899 for a couple of years with no real issues, dash screen has cracked and the gear indicator cable needs changing but these problems affect both models
     
  7. Agree that the 899 is the better looking one with regards to the exhaust!
     
  8. Both of them benefit from Termis and the map, in the U.K. at least you’re more likely to find an 899 with Termis than a 959. Doesn’t really add much to the used price so you’re better off holding out for one with the cans

  9. If you can get a 959 close in money terms and quality terms as an 899 then go for it. Marginal differences and all that :upyeah:

  10. Don’t forget the 899/1199 system will fit straight onto a 959. Best of both worlds then. Both are brilliant bikes, @El Toro will confirm that but there are a few tweaks to the 959 such as twin injectors and other bits which make further upgrades a bit easier.
    I picked up a brand new 1199 full system for £100. Went out for the first time in months yesterday and the std exhausts are plenty loud enough. The std 959 cans both look horrible and weigh a tonne

  11. General rule of thumb: go for last of the model you can afford as by time it moves to new model ducati will normally have sorted all the first model teething issues :upyeah:

  12. Hi I have a 959 and love it, my riding mate has an 899. V little to chose between them apart from the much nearer 899 exhaust which als sounds better. V few panels are the same the more you look the more you see they are almost all different. For 1500 you could get a shock upgrade and lighter wheels maybe which would be excellent. I am 80kg and found the shock too soft so replaced with a 1299 which has more support and some height adjustment if needed

  16. I've had both and the 959 is easier to ride especially the clutch. I bought mine with 3.5k otc and underbelly akras for £9.5k which for smiles per pound has been an absolute steal. If you go for the 899 make sure it has termis fitted already too if I were you (as others have also mentioned). .

  17. So with about 4-5k Euro between a 2014 899 and a 2019 959 Corse I went for the last one. A grand a year on paper might be worth saving but with mileage, warranty and expensive “big Desmo maintenance” on top I “just” went for the best (imho) choosing a Corse with just 6500km, the gold jewelry from Sweden front and back, aluminum tank, some nice options and a whole year full warranty. Can’t wait!

  19. Superb choice!! I went and looked at one just before I test rode the V2, but actually I should have bought the 959. It was from a dealer that wasn’t a Ducati dealer and had some other stickers on it that bothered me as I thought the Matt paint might get ruined. Great choice though

  20. Thanks, Yeah this is the one for me although the V2 has the single side swinger. Striping is on top of the paint without clear coat so it’s kinda fragile. I understand your worries about additional stickers.

    The 899 exhaust is the one to have. This one is ok for me but I’m going to dive into 899/1199 exhaust options. The lowers parts of the fairing is different if I’m correct and it’s not really a common paint scheme on the Corse.
