Hi all, i am wondering if anyone else has had the horn wire break on them, it has happened a few times when turning the bike on full lock the cable snaps, i have managed to repair it before luckily by just reconnecting the wire in to the spade connectors but this time the wire has actually snapped half way down the exposed part of the wire, i do have a Ducati V4 parts catalogue but i can only find the number for the horn and not a connecter or extension wire for the horn, will it be a case of getting some wire and extending it with a join and new spade connectors or is there a part number for a connector in to the loom. If its a case of a DIY job can anyone suggest what wire etc i need and a good place in the UK to get it, i have an MOT coming up so i need to get it fixed ASAP. All suggestions welcome
Think you have answered your own question. It is apparently too short. Out with the soldering iron, shrink wrap, wire and spade connectors. Modify it to account for the handlebar lock.
Thanks Chris, I thought of knew that was the case but I wasnt sure if the horn wire went back to a connector so I could just replace the old wire with new, going down the diy route do you or anyone know what wire gauge or spec I need to add an extension and a good place to get it all in the UK. Not being the most technical but willing to give it a go, should I just buy new spade connections, new length of wire and new joining section and just crimp it or do you suggest new spade connections, new wire and solder in the extension, im just interested in which way to go, all crimp connections or soldering in the new wire. Thanks for your reply. I need to get this done ASAP for an mot
18 through 14 gauge will do the job. For a quick fix to get you through the MOT make an extension piece and make the connections with spade terminals. When you get time solder things up use shrink wrap.
Thanks mate I'll take your advice, can you suggest where to get the bits I need from, do you think places like halfords will do it
You can get everything you need from Halfords, but it will turn a pence fix into pounds. No one local who can help out? (Socially distanced of course).
Unfortunately I dont know anyone who can help me in surrey area. Billy no mates thanks for the advice and help, I'll have a look at halfords to see what they have
I’m West Sussex/Surrey borders. Just looked and Epsom is an 80ish mile round trip so you’ll do more in fuel than the cost of the bits from Halfords. Just looked on their the website. You’ll get away with the bits fit under a fiver. Or get a 100 pack from toolstation or screw fix for the same cost.
