Hi, I have just purchased an 2009 848.. I want to get some new bolts for the rear sets and give them a good clean. Problem is when i went to remove them the head was not in the best shape. I have a Laser Allen key damaged head removal set but this didnt help. The bolts on the left hand side are well in there and despite spraying with penetrating lube they still wont come out. Before i start drilling them out id like to know the size of the bolts if any one has any idea please let me know. The Allen head is (or was 6mm). Looking at replacing a fair few of the bolts as they are a little corroded and want to get it back in A1 condition. If any of you have a list of bolt sizes and maybe part no's id be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
Is it worth trying tapping a torx socket into the round off hex head? I’ve used a wurth extractor set with success. https://eshop.wurth.co.uk/Product-c...eces/31086003010201.cyid/3108.cgid/en/GB/GBP/
Heat. Try a Torx. Or cut a slot for a large flat blade screwdriver if you have clearance. But regardless heat is your friend.
They are held on by a very strong Loctite, as mentioned heating and then hammering a strong bit into the bolt should help to free it. Once out it's a good idea to run a tap through the hole to clean it out if you have one the right size.
Get one of these, impact driver with bits, from toolstation, screwfix, machine mart. Fit the correct driver into the tool, push it into the screw head, turn fully to the left (undo) Holding it in this position, hit the tool with a hammer. This drives the bit into the screw head and twists it in the correct direction while impacting the screw. Usually works.
Got the buggers out, ending up drilling them out in steps from 3 - 7mm then used stud extraction tool and getting them nice and warm with a hair dryer. Thanks for the advice
Funnily enough I put a new set of rear sets on an 848 yeasterday. The bolts were stiff, but a decent allen key and some brute force broke the loctite and they came off nae bother. Persevere mate, don't drill unless you have to! Check out You tube for how too videos before you go full rage on it.
Well done. I doubt the hairdryer did much if anything. Do yourself a favour and get a blowtorch, even a chefs one. You need the get it v hot so water boils on the surface.
