Hi all, My 620 monster needs, I believe, a clutch master cylinder repair kit. Moto Rapido inform me that Ducati don't do such a thing. That is really surprising - has anyone else overhauled their M/cylinder and if so, where did you find the parts? Cheers, Paul G
Or..... I believe the master cylinder on the 620 was common to quite a few other models. Does anyone know if there are any other models I could search for, to find the same part? Cheers, Paul
Can you find a parts manual to get the relevant numbers? There may be one referred to on here somewhere...
there is no official rebuild kit from ducati. there are some kits out there depending on which model of master you have if its the PS13 13mm coffin type master i think you will want brembo part 110.4362.50. but do you own checks . the size will be stamped on the body this is in the states but im sure you can find in uk https://store.bevelheaven.com/Brake...-M|C-Kit-fits-all-hollow-pivot-lever-type-MC/
Thank you Funkatronic. Yes it's coffin shaped and the piston is 13mm in diameter, so that sounds promising. I also found a model number stamped underneath so I will follow up with that. In researching this, I found out on another site that Ducati and Brembo failed to reach agreement on the sale of spares, which is why Ducati don't do the kit, but you CAN get kits for Brembo m/Cylinders from KTM and Guzzi, both of which also use Brembo - as long as you know the part number. Cheers, I think I'm getting there!
Update - for the sake of recording this for future reference, it seems that there is a Moto Guzzi part that's compatible. In the UK I ordered it from Gutsibits, under this reference: BRA28659 Brake Master Cylinder PS13 Front Brembo Overhaul Kit £26 incl VAT. It looks correct and its dimensions all measure up correctly. Once fitted (or not!) I will confirm its compatibility. The alternative, BTW, was a new lever and cylinder from Ducati at about £140.
Yep - fits perfectly!! Despite the accompanying instructions seeming to relate solely to a rear brake M/Cylinder, these parts were 100% correct for the Monster's clutch master cylinder. One observation - all info I could find around servicing Brembo cylinders referred to the removal of an internal circlip so that the internals could be accessed. My cylinder did not have a removable circlip, but instead a presses-in ring. Perhaps this is why they are deemed to be non-serviceable. There is a white plastic retainer inside the pressed-in ring. I sacrificed that to remove it (and thus access the O-ring that needed to be replaced) and by making the replacement retainer slightly oval, I could persuade it into place, all without having to remove the pressed-in ring. The pic shows the (munched) white plastic retainer and a replacement for the pressed-in ring (should you be able to remove the original, I certainly couldn't). Hope this is useful. Paul
