Hi all I'm new to the Ducati world having spent the previous 4 years on a Triumph Tiger 1050 sport. This query has probably been raised before but here goes; I now have a 2018 Supersport that's fitted with a quick-shifter. On the upshifts, especially under hard acceleration it occasionally finds a false neutral between 5th and 6th. On the odd occasion I have also found this false neutral whilst going back down the gears again between 6th and 5th which is annoying and sometimes a bit scary. Anyone else had this problem and if so is there a cure? Is it something to do with the QS or more of a gearbox problem?
Try moving the gear shifter down slightly to suit your riding position, it will never happen again. The factory setting for that gearshifter is about 20mm too high.
That's my worry, if it's a gear lever setting why does it only happen between 5th and 6th and nowhere else within the range of gears?
Try the mod and report back. I suspect the bulk of the current super sport gearbox bits are related to the bits Ducati designed back in the 80s , they arent the tightest of tolerances on gearshifts and some improve with age , and some when you check backlash make you wonder if theres a tooth or two missing.
Try a 'firmer' shift - i.e. hoof it a bit harder! That 5-6 neutral is a common feature if the shift isn't firm enough.
I am getting the exact same issue on my diavel 1260s and the dealer is going to take a look but advised the same, they wanted to know was it only when using the qs and have I adjusted the leaver. I have and it’s made a big improvement but I need to be firm from 5th to 6th or use the clutch
The weak point is between 5th and 6th. By moving the lever down you ensure that your upshift is always firmer in every change. Just ignore me if you want, it only takes 5 minutes to adjust it. I do have over 3 years and 30,000 miles on my Supersport 939.
