Quick question? We are preparing to go on on our annual bike trip in a couple of weeks down to the Black Forrest to run the B500 and then onto base ourselves in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for a week to do the Grossglockner Pass and Stelvio Pass, my question is:-Are the Ducati Side Panniers and Top Box water proof or do I need the Ducati liners?
So far my panniers and top box have been 100% waterproof but it's always worth having your kit in liners so that if you need to open a pannier in pouring rain they're at least protected a bit. What makes you think the Ducati liners are waterproof?
Use bin liners. I had the pannier and top box bags (Ducati) and didn't like using them. So far mine have proved to be 100% waterproof in some utter deluges.
Bought some of these last week, They worked well on my IOM trip last weekend. PANNIER LINER BAGS FOR DUCATI MULTISTRADA 1200 | eBay
My panniers are also 100% waterproof, I apply a little silicone lube to the seals before and after long trips, helps keep the seals clean and flexible
Thanks for the input people, just saved me some money on buying the inner bags (I hope!) I will use some bin bags as suggested to line the boxes for peace of mind. Cheers
I have a pair of those liners. Half the price of the Ducati-badged version and very useful because in effect they are suitcases you can remove easily, leaving the panniers in place. Well worth the money. I don't know if they're waterproof but as people are saying the panniers are, it shouldn't be an issue.
The cheaper option for a top box bag is to just buy the correct size Givi one and pretend the badges don't matter. The pannier bags I bought on eBay aren't handed which is a minor pain but I only use them on trips of a week or longer so it's not exactly serious.
Yes they fit perfectly and are made to fit each side. For the price and compared to the Ducati liners they are excellent value. They are useful in that you can pack and unpack your bags in the house and leave the panniers on the bike.
I bought some liners off ebay for the BMW, they were excellent, waterproof, and easily removed and repacked, no issues with zips etc. Recommend them to all and a fraction of the Beemer ones. BMW K1600GT & GTL PANNIER LINER BAGS EXPANDABLE | eBay Not for my bike but the same make.
Just back from a trip up the 500 and the Alsace, enjoy your trip we have the inner bags but actually only use them on shorter trips, because it is easier to get more stuff in the panniers using a bin liner. the panniers generally don't leak, but if you over stuff the top box you will find the rear corners don't meet fully, so water will get in if its chucking it down. a little tip that it seems many people do t follow: put enough stuff in a bag in the top box for your first night / second day. Then you don't need to unpack the panniers until the 2nd (or 3rd) night. saves a lot of lugging stuff about. hope that helps.
+1 for these, I found them most useful for the one night stops on my recent trip. They have carry straps that save taking the whole pannier off to carry up and are a lot more durable and classy than bin bags.
Does anyone have the Givi Liner for the Ducati top box T502?, is there a better size one for the Ducati top box, or is the T502 the right one? Does the original Ducati Liner have more space? over the T502. Reason I want a Liner and not a bin bag is so I can leave the top box on when I go away and not have to cart it up to the room to unload and reload etc. that top box is heavy, and then I can do one trip carrying the liner over shoulder, and two panniers (I leave panniers in room if more than one night).
