Yep, surely you’ve got to try it on? Unless it’s a like for like make and model... Like gloves and leathers. Gotta try them on.
Pretty sure most like Sportsbike etc let you send 'em back if they don't fit. Although a bit of a faff of course.
It honestly couldn't be any less of a faff. For me I know roughly the brands that will fit me and those that won't, for example an Arai just doesn't work for my head shape, Shoei however is pretty much bang on, but also most lids are customizable for fit now. There's also loads of videos reviews like revzilla that talk through fitment so unless you're buying your very first helmet (where a store visit probably is needed) you'll have some kind of starting point. With helmets especially I think the online ordering is almost better than store try on. Display helmets are guaranteed to have been taken on and off hundreds of times, squeezed onto different heads, so they will be more relaxed than a brand new lid. A quick store try on also doesn't really tell you how well it's likely to fit in the long run, even wearing for ten minutes and wandering around the shop isn't going to tell you where an annoying pressure point may develop after wearing it for an hour. So being able to have it sent to home, try on a brand new lid, wear it for an hour or more, put on your gear, sit on the bike, all of this means you can really test fitment. The Sportsbikeshop returns process also couldn't be simpler. The box it's delivered in is literally designed to then also be used to return it with new tabs all in place, its free returns postage, take it to your nearest drop off/collect plus location and you're sorted. When you're looking for specific gear, in specific sizes, online just can't be beaten in my eyes as you just can't guarantee that the store you're going to will have what you want to try. My entire current set of gear came from sportsbikeshop, only thing that needed to go back and up a size was my held suit as it was too short. Honestly, give it a go
if you do choose Cheddar 0.4 miles down the road in the direction of Wells there is this.... https://www.theciderbarn.net but remember folks.
@Keith_P down in cheddar today and popped into Helmet City. Great bunch in there, I would highly recommend them now too, thanks for the tip mate. Did me a cracking deal on a new Shoei, service was second to none
I have bought my last two helmets from Helmet City, they have given me great service. The last helmet I had from them was a lovely Schuberth E1 and the price was unbeatable. They are a good outfit to deal with.
Helmet City are great, bought 2 helmets from them and returned both as the fit wasn't great. Actually managed to get into an actual shop yesterday to try on and was surprised how the sizes and shapes have changed. So now I am hawking Helmet City and Sportsbikeshop for a large Arai or XL Schuberth!
