So I added to the fleet today and bought a 1098, clean low mileage bike with good history but……low revs is dog rough, smells very rich and fuelly and clears at 4-5000 rpm and nearly pulls your arms out when pushing on….running Termis (sounds incredible) but otherwise not really buggered around with! Any advice would be great….ta
The low rpm poor running could be down to the EXBV sticking. It’s a sprung pulley on the right side of the exhaust link pipes. If you carefully remove the pulley the valve can be manually rotated and lubricated with copper grease. You really need to get the EXBV deleted from the ECU and junk the cables/motor. The pulley/spring can be left in place as it is held in the open position.
Sold an RSV4 Aprilia to a local used bike dealer, they had the 1098 there by coincidence…..it just looked a nice bike, 2007 with 5000 miles and a full history. The Aprilia riding position was almost impossible for me but believe it or not, the duke is much better! Makes a good room mate for my 748 too
Freed everything up and the valve is now working fine, test ride (and a pint!) and it feels better but still not 100%….any other thoughts?
roads were crazy busy, pint needed to calm the nerves! Seemed to ride better on the way back though….strange!
