Brembo P4 How Do I Get The Brake Pad Pin Out???

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Duncs, Jun 12, 2021.

  1. Got an early Brembo P4 from a 907ie leaking from one of the pistons. My question is how do you get the single brake pad pin out? Doesn't make sense to split the caliper every time you want to change pads. 20210612_103946.jpg 20210612_103951.jpg 20210612_144654.jpg 20210612_154456.jpg

  2. If you take off the holding clip then they should just pull out. Yours may have got seized somehow. Try soaking in WD40 (or such like) and then twisting them out.

  3. The pin in the picture looks well past its sell by date so I’d consider replacing it with new (I think they come with new R pins). Looks like the pad spring is missing as well so would be worth sourcing a replacement at the same time imho.

  4. as said, your normally expanding, springy, "C" section collar (the black bit in piccy) is corroded to fuck and is beyond functioning.

  5. Thanks for the advice, I managed to get the pin out with a few taps of the hammer. My pin appears to be missing the end piece wear the r clip should be. I'll get new pins and a rebuild kit and do both calipers. Where's the best place for Brembo parts? 20210613_101813.jpg

  6. They didn’t always have an “R” clip D, The one I pictured is the “belt and braces “job which I must admit I prefer.
As for Brembo parts, hopefully someone will come along with a specific link as, just generalising, it’s often been a nightmare for me in the past although Sev said the price is quite good at the moment, sometimes a KTM dealer is the answer believe it or not, but you then have to carefully cross reference part numbers.

  7. I have sourced rebuild kits from Powerhouse Automotive who have an eBay shop but probably best phone them direct as not all Brembo calipers have piston and seal kits. A word of caution, I sent a pair of M4 calipers away for a service and rebuild (infuriatingly can’t remember where) and I could have bought new calipers for only a little bit more than the rebuild cost and it took weeks for pistons to come from Italy. Pin and retaining spring kits are available through Ducati, pistons and seals are not. Andy

  8. Kit on eBay in America though and no pin

They look very similar/same as the Brembos on my 2004 BMW r1150rt, I purchased a rebuild kit from Motoworks in Holmfirth.

  9. There’s a lot of very technical statements in your post Chris, any chance you could put into layman’s terms please?

  10. Update. I have now taken the calipers apart and replaced the seals, plus new pins. Thanks everyone for their help. A special mention for Steve at Mode Performance a company that specializes in Brembos who had everything I needed.

  11. The pins that takes the "R" clip are available in Stainless Steel, wave goodbye to corrosion problems. ;)
