VW Transporter

  1. I'm thinking of getting a van to move my bike around in for track days etc. I've kind of settled on a VW Transporter Combi with split 2/3 rear seats behind the driver so that I can fit the family in and the bike if I remove one of the 3 rear seats.

Does anyone know if I will get away with this on a SWB or of I will need a LWB?

  2. A friend of mine has the minibus version and it is a SWB i cant see how a bike would fit in a SWB with the seats for passengers in as well?
Having said that looking at the LWB

I think you would have the same problem, but using the version above, it looks like the rear bench seat could be removed to give a long load bed for the bike, 4 floor mounted D rings a ramp and you are away :upyeah:

As a vehicle they are very good as are most VW and they seem cheap enough for what they are?

    Just my ramblings.

  3. It'll be tight with the other 2 seats in. Strapping the bike in could be a pain too as the other 2 seats could be taking up the anchor points. A bike wil go in a swb though easily.

Not sure if a lwb would overcome the problem either as I don't think the extension in wheelbase would compensate for the space taken up by the seats.

if you want to take the family, perhaps car and box trailer might be a better option?

  4. Too small I'd reckon, as they are not that wide and even lwb isnt that long.

And you'll pay a whack of a premium for the brand. Cold loom at a peo'pe bus from Vauxhall or Merc instead, slightly wider I think so may be able to get along side a single seat in the back

  5. I have a T5 SWB kombi with twin sliders and the two rear seats in the middle. Can get my 750 or 900SS down one side with one rear seat removed.
Prior I had a T4 Kombi with single slider and the rear dual seat to one side-again got both the SS's home in it,(not together though)

  6. I've had loads of vans,Renault/Mercedes/Iveco/Transits...always go back to VW for percy use though, good vans, looked after they won't let you down.
and the resale value is very good too

  7. I've got the Vito Sport 204 (SWB), and like Lightning_650 if I remove one seat I can fit my 1098 in no bother.

  8. Yes you can Dave, I've got a T5 combi ( unfortunately with a 3 seat removable bench seat) but my mate has the combi your after, he gets his Gixxer 1000 in after taking out the left hand single rear seat with no problems at all. As a rough guide I can get two bike (RC8 and Gixxer 1000 and all the kit we need for TD's in my SWB T5. I've had mine for over three years which is unheard of as I usually change my vehicles after a max of 12 months. Thing is if you get a T5 your entering a whole new world of 'bringing', 20 inch alloys, carbon wrapping, chipping etc. T32 which is 130 brake as standard can be chipped up to 165 which makes it fun to drive and it's just as quick as the Sportline which you pay über Dosh for. Go for single seats in the front not the bench passenger seat as its uncomfortable.

  9. Thanks guys - I've seen one that is just the ticket today. I feel a purchase coming on - pretty tax efficient as a company vehicle as well

  10. Jeeze, previous owner must've been a Ducati owner

  11. Twin side loading doors are far more convenient, believe me.

  12. Yes - I can see that. Rear barn doors rather than tailgate as well I guess. I'm having real difficulty finding one with everything I'd want ideally. I reckon I could live with this one though.

  13. Convenient, yes, but not perfect. The sliding door footwell,(on both sides) can be a pain in the backside at those times when you really, really want a bit of level floor

  14. Dave,

where are you looking for these? I am also looking gently as all I use my car for is hauling bikes around.....

does anyone know though if you can get two bikes in one? They look tight to me but in haven't tried.

i also like the transporters but not sure if they are big enough.

  17. Nope, those are empties ....

  18. Yep, like I said you've left the most important item on the pavement [IMG] or a lamp post

  19. Crickey! that's a real packing job.

Thanks - answers my question then.
