Desert Sled Engine Cut Out When Downshifting

  1. Hi All:

I have a 2019 Desert Sled. Less than 400 miles on it. Purchased from a person whom was unable to use it. Last weekend, twice, during the a ride of 200km the engine cut out when down shifting. I was rolling at around 60km/h 40mph, I closed throttle, pulled in the clutch, and the engine cut out. I was able to restart after coasting for a bit.

I also noticed around 5 times during the ride that on the down shift when I gave a bit of throttle as I was releasing the clutch that the engine revs did not increase. It was like I did not twist the throttle. I had a similar problem with a KTM 690 many years ago. A remap solved the issue.

So I am enquiring if anyone has had engine cut out or no throttle response on down shifts?

Kind of smells like a mapping and/or throttle sensor problem. Thanks in advance.

  2. Hope you get it sorted & can share the reason why.

  3. May not be a helpful comment, but at that age it's still under warranty so I'd be off to my nearest dealer to get it sorted...

  4. Bike had its first service today. Beside the oil change there has been attempt to diagnose the intermittent engine cut out or lack of throttle response. There were no fault codes found. The next step by the dealership was to run diagnosis tests on some sensors. One of them, some type of oxygen sensor, was found to be performing very marginally. In other words near outside of specification. That could explain the intermittent nature of the problem. A software update was applied too. Under warranty a new sensor has been ordered. When that will be delivered remains to be seen. When it is installed I will report back.

  5. I have similar problem with both my 2015 scrambler from new and my Sled, the Scrambler is better with a change of exhaust, but took it back many times to the dealer and complained to Ducati and they never solved it, it cuts out on down shift if you blip the throttle and worse on the lights cuts out as you blip the throttle to pull off, Sled is Euro 4 and dies the same, I reckon the fix is rip off the CAT and maybe remap to richen the fuelling.
