1100 Issues With 2020 Sport Pro

  1. So... I'm having a few issues with my scrambler 1100 sport pro. I thought I'd post them on here to see if others have the same issue

    1. Stone chipped/flaking paint on the front cylinder.

    2. Discolouring on the left side brake disc, it's starting to "yellow" on the edge, oddly enough when I popped into the dealer their demo had the same thing

    3. Possible oil leak

The bike is a year old and has done 1500 miles. Always garaged and pampered so a little disappointing on such an expensive bike. The dealer doesn't think he can do anything on the paint as he feels it's down to stone chipping. I'm not too worried about this as I can always use a local very good "smart repair" company to touch it up if it gets worse or may "plastidip" the area myself.

The brake disc and oil leak they have booked in to investigate under warranty. I've asked them to book it at the end of the riding season as neither seems urgent. The oil level hasn't dropped in the sight glass.

The brake disc is what I'm wondering most about. The right side disc is absolutely fine but the left one is yellow on the rim. The dealer demo had red discoloration on the rim again on the left side, right was bright silver as expected. You can clearly see the difference in the two sides in my pics.

Any thoughts would be welcome. Ducati Nottingham are looking into it for me.

  2. - Stone chips
    - Looking at the disc surface it's possible the brake pad is getting slightly held against the brake disc.
    - You definitely have an oil leak. Likely to be from the rocker cover. It should be just a matter of replacing the gasket.

  3. Brill thanks so doesn't sound like anything to lose any sleep over. It's booked into Ducati Nottingham in Oct to investigate.

  4. No, there's nothing serious to worry about at all.

You could experiment with a couple of things in the meantime:
    - Clean the disc with brake cleaner and paper towel/clean rag and see if the pattern returns. Cleaning the brake pad surface with brake cleaner would likely get rid of it but it's not strictly necessary.
    - Use brake cleaner or degreaser to remove the oil and after the next ride you'll have a better idea of exactly where's it coming from. Most likely it's being blown onto the cylinder head.

If you do neither of the above, it's just sensible checks which you're on top of already.

    Enjoy the bike!
