Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement

  1. Anybody has any knowledge about replacing a clutch master cylinder on a multi 1260, I have the part but dealers are booking at least 1 month in front.

changing looks straightforward, but it’s the setting up & bleeding that I’m unsure of

  2. - Syringe out the fluid from the reservoir and then disconnect the brake hose, being careful of brake fluid spills.
    - Remove the old master cylinder and replace, with new crush washers.

Even with the hose disconnected the surface tension of the brake fluid will largely prevent air entering the hose. If you're taking your time you could wrap some clean plastic around the banjo and put a rubber band or cable tie around it

    - Swap over the reservoir and once connected, refill with fresh brake fluid. You should still have pressure in the system and any air can then be bled through the open reservoir by repeatedly pulling and releasing the lever, using micro strokes, watching the air bubbles breaking on the surface.

When no more air is visible you should be finished.

If the pressure isn't sufficient, the next option is to try reverse bleeding via the slave cylinder bleed nipple.
    - Using a syringe, push fluid (and air hopefully) up to the master cylinder and reservoir.
Before starting, you'll need to remove the majority of the fluid in the reservoir to avoid overfilling when you starting pushing fluid through. A tight fitting hose on the bleed nipple is key.
