Hi, after many delays the 2019 cancelled IAM skills days are running. Time to be concerned about whether or not a full termi (with baffle) will pass the noise requirement. Asked before but seemed an age ago before Covid. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
For an IAM RS track skills day, you bike needs to be road legal. If your Termi states anywhere visible 'not for road use' or 'race' and you are challenged, your day could be over before it starts. My 1200 Multistrada with an Arrow decat system with baffles passed at Castle Combe. Andy
Well done for passing a Castle Combe test! CC are hated by the residents of Yatton Keynell. They are gagging for a chance to complain about the thousand of houses that will be built there when the residents get CC closed down. Some people love complaining!
A story that sums up what YK is about. Castle Combe stand little chance! https://www.gazetteandherald.co.uk/...-yatton-keynell-neighbour-to-move-spy-camera/
I've done a couple of 'quiet' track days at Donington on my 1200 with a full Termignoni, first time I left the baffle in all day and no complaints, second time I took the baffle out after the first session, it definitely robs some bhp, and still no complaints.
Thruxton is very strict, if your local it might be wise to pop down before the day and get it checked
I’ve done 3 or 4 skills days at Thruxton (last one in 2020) on my Monster with termi’s on with no problem. Kept baffles in for the day, (something they mention in the ‘blurb’ to be considerate to locals....which fair enough) but didn’t cover up any markings on the pipes. Passed by IAM ‘scrutineers’ each time. They very much looking at state of tyres, chain tension, no loose parts, number plates not removed etc etc rather than concentrating on noise levels. Never seen them with a noise / sound level probe thingy there. Got another one booked for July this year, and will be taking my Monster with termis on again.... great days riding. Hope that helps. Cheers Nick
My parents live in the next village from Thruxton, so my Dad and I enjoy sitting in the garden listening to the bikes, so please take the baffles out and be as loud as you can!
I can never ever understand why people move to houses near race tracks -which they must know or are stupid - and then just bleat about noise (if there is much).
It is to my simple mind! And actually I was tempted to look at house prices in Yatton Keynell and Castle Combe (that I would think be fecking expensive) but this route (featuring the Lynham bends - was one of my favourites! But then reality struck! I don't need to move and am perfectly happy where I am, so feck it!
OK, I couldn't resist it! Still wouldn't even consider it and it is expensive! Funny - no mention of being blighted by noise from CC race track so it must be fine. After all, estate agents are always honest and truthful, aren't they?
And 01666 is the std code for Malmesbury and it is |NOT a local call rate (unless you live in Malmesbury) so they can't even be honest about that! I guess when being dishonest comes so naturally, there is no going back...
When I was working in Scotland, I used to get the last flight back from Glasgow to Bristol in a Friday. There is supposed to be a curfew at Bristol of midnight (I think) and often we didn't even set out form Glasgow until just before midnight (coz the plane was used for many flights all day and often it would be late getting into Glasgow, as Easyjet work their planes like dogs) I think that the alternative was Cardiff to avoid breaking the curfew. On one of my first journeys, I was worried as my car was at Bristol and I would have to get back there to pick up my car. With all the frigging about, I would probably not get home until about 5am on Saturday! I was naïve. We broke the curfew most weeks. Thing was, when we got back to Bristol at about 1am it was all action as lots of other planes would come in late, as well. Passengers were already there to get their holiday flights leaving at around 6am on Saturday morning. Many of the brain-dead seem to think if you got their early then you would get the pick of the seats - like it matters. Of course, the check-in wouldn't be opening for four hours. I think the curfew was allowed to be broken so many times a year. That loophole was exploited to the maximin!
Quick update. Had a great time at Thruxton skills day on the 24th. Rode with full termi with baffle in and had no noise issues. Despite giving it the beans at times the new pirelli Angel GT 2’s behaved very well and showed hardly any wear. Think I prefer the original Angel GT’s but not much in it on a dry track. Cheers
