Hi, I've recently moved to Germany from the UK and am changing the headlights for riding on the right. I've already sourced a good secondhand dip beam but do I have to change the high beam as well because, surely, it direct lights only forward and is not angled for the change from left to right lane driving?
Having never done any adjustments to the dip on my 999 when travelling in Europe. I had assumed the beams were symmetrical and do not differ to European bikes. I certainly had no issues due to my light beam from other European drivers.
If memory serves and its a very very vague one from when I took my 999 to Europe the Dip may be adjustable by rotating it on its mounts by a few degrees . The hi beam doesn't dip and therefore no adjustment required .
should only be the dip that is side left or right... i bought a 999r that was RHD but changed the dipped headlight as I am also Germany based.. where about's are you in settled now?
Thanks for all the comments and I think I will be OK also keeping the high beam on my 999S. Also, Nathan, I am now located on the Mosel just north of Trier.
Just to add a final clarification to this... As I'm in the middle of installing EU lights on my UK bike. The headlights are identical EU/UK - straight ahead. The dipped beam assembly is the same for all (as you would expect!) but there is a riveted plate inside that defines if the beam is blocked to the left or right. It is possible to de-rivet, flip over and change the beam side (see below) UK part number: 520.4.022.1B EU part number: 520.4.022.1A This above is 520.4.022.1B - the plate is on the bottom as the beam is flipped as it goes through the lens. Plate reversed and re-riveted:
Reversing the plate would work (if it fits in reverse). 916 models have a plate/deflector in the dip beam that determines L/R dip and it can be replaced but due to the shape can't be flipped. My bike originally had a LHD dip and I made a new plate, a mirror image of the original, from stainless steel to correct the dip - works perfectly.
I don't suppose you still have the LHD dip plate do you?? As I also need to convert a 996 to Eu spec.
