Pitting problem

  1. Ladies and Gentlemen,

i have an immaculate 2006 999r in long term storage (in the house!). It only has 1000 miles on the clock and the only reason it's indoors is because (a), I am driving a 1098r and (b)' the 999r is a keeper for my son (after having 4 girls!) aged 5 now. Lucky/Spoilt brat, I know....

i have it under cover to stop him defacing it but checking it yesterday, I noticed that the magnesium headlight unit is badly pitted. I bought the bike per-enjoyed in 2008 and it was definitely perfect. It seems to be a recent phenominum. What might be causing this and any tips to stop it. The room is bone dry and heheated any thoughts would be great.

    Rgds

  2. I think you will find Magnesium is relatively unstable. I had problems with a magnesium wheel on a race bike I had years ago. You can get it treated, Dymag used to treat magnesium wheels and I believe they would even treat wheels that were not their own. It might be worth checking out via the net or possibly someone on here etc.

  3. + 1 for Steve. Top bloke made a fantastic job of my mag alloy wheels and Febur mag alloy swing arm. He'll do a chemical strip, silica powder blast, die pen crack detection and then re chromate. You can leave it like that or have it powder coated or sprayed. His mobile is 07840 628300.
