1200 Good Time To Buy

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Hattori-Hanzo, Oct 31, 2021.

  1. I've been keeping my eye on Multistrada's for the past two and a half years with the intention to buy soon-ish, though no rush.
I sold up biking a few years ago and regret it.
I've seen the second hand bike market has gone mad this last year with prices ever increasing.

Just wondering on peoples thoughts of when might be the best time to buy (if any)
The v4 PP thread has me wondering if there will be any good trade in deals if/when it's launched?

The 1200 Enduro is highest on my list but I'm on a budget.
Dvt 1200s can be had slightly cheaper.
1260 will likely be out of budget.

I check ebay and autotrader pretty much daily but is there any where else I should be looking also?
My local dealer is Snells but they don't deal in many second hand bikes, at least not in my price range.

  2. Keep an eye on Ducati Mcr’s website they now have a few outlets, Manchester, Glasgow, Preston, Stoke-on-Trent, and Worcester. and are generally good to deal with.

  3. Thanks for the heads up, will keep an eye on them too. :upyeah:

  4. I’ve sold a few bikes on Facebook marketplace this year (and am selling my multistrada 1200s 2011 on there at the moment). As long as you do your due diligence I think it’s not a bad place for buying and selling at the moment.

  5. With the V4s coming out there seems.to be quite a few 1200/1260s being part exchanged, so now could be a good time in terms of availability.

Even with the uplift in the used market I managed to get a deal and PX I was happy with on the 1260S I bought recently. Dealers seem to still want to move stock out the door.

  6. The Enduro was less popular and there were discounts when they didn’t initially sell. I expect there are less of them around but you should be able to get a deal eventually

  7. Have you popped in to Snells recently ?
I traded in my 2018 white 1200 Enduro a few months back, and they still had it not long ago.
Its a nice clean bike, only had just over 4k miles on it.

I guess it depends on what your budget is though.
I tend to try the dealers first, as you will get a warranty of some description and may get a discount on any accesories you buy too.
If you arent worried about that then mcn, autotrader are the first 2 places I look, then e-bay too.
Good luck with your search :)

  8. As an Enduro owner, I can tell you that they're less popular due to their size (I assume) so have depreciated faster. You'll likely find that for their age and mileage you'll likely pay less for one than you would for the "standard" bike.

  9. Thanks for all the replies chaps :upyeah:

I'll add facebook and MCN to the search list.

Has any one bought from STV motorcycles? I've seen a few multistrada from there and the prices are always competitive.
Currently have a 1260 but no panniers with it.

I did see the white Enduro at Snells but sadly it was over my budget, If I recall it had no panniers included either.
Ideally I'm after one with full luggage, though I think my budget will limit this now.

From what I'm seeing at the moment the Enduro is the most expensive of the 1200 range?
Annoying as when I first started looking you could pick up an Enduro with full luggage (slightly higher millage) for 8-9k

Now I'm not seeing any thing under 10k

  10. If you don’t mind waiting you’ll probably get a good deal around mid December.

  11. I'm in no rush, I've waited this long what's a few more months :p

    Cheers all.

  12. I bought a bike from them, a HRC Fireblade. Honestly, Paul is probably the best person I have ever dealt with when it comes to service, I can't recommend highly enough. You won't go wrong buying a bike from STV.

  13. From personal experience, try looking to non Ducati main dealers (particularly Japanese ones) who sell their trade-in’s. Generally they shudder at the thought of Italian bikes in their show rooms and are keen to shift them on. Look for one with good Ducati history and haggle a deal for it, especially if it’s due a service saying “how much if you don’t service it before I buy”. Then you can get it serviced at Ducati, or specialist to keep up the history.
