My Clutch system has gone voodoo. I have fitted two MPL slaves without too many issues in the past. Bought an Oberon Clutch in spring and just can’t get it to work. Maker called me and says things like the "back wheel should rotate on centre stand when clutch is fully in" (yes can't get it into gear) and putting on the side stand to bleed helps (yes 15% extra gravity !) plus leave it for 3 days … I replaced the master, lever and carried out every trick. Bleed nipple vacuum, Push back with a syringe. Bleed at top bleed at bottom. Open nipple pull in lever close repeat..repeat.. Multiple pull then close. The OEM did work for a while then I tried the (soon to be binned) Oberon for a 7th time (no joke)and I am back to square one. No pressure at all at the lever I am now open to Voodoo solutions like blocked nipple or blocked crushed lines. My St4s may be pissed because I am dating a younger model so it may be consciously fighting me!
Thanks Sev. OEM Works after a lot of frigging and did work 5 days ago. Does not work now..yet. Rod is 32 mm and is the right size for no spacer according to Oberon. Spacer was tried but bolts would not do up. Procedure for removing spacer did not work either and had to be returned were the unit was checked. Prefilling was tried. If i get any pressure at all on the lever I can try the partial tighten. Thanks
Tip, surround bottom of bleed nipples in grease or vaseline to avoid air being drawn in via the nipples thread. I had this with a persistent air bubble somewhere in my clutch line that would not budge. The air I thought I was bleeding was just being drawn through the thread of the nipple.
I spent a whole weekend bleeding air via the thread until someone told me that trick. It may be your cause but equally it may not. Good luck.
I did the same when overhauling brakes on a Guzzi, bought new bleed nipples, spent a couple of weeks going mad thereafter......! Wrong chamfered profile that wouldn't seal..! They are not all the same! Why not try bleeding with the old (OE?) ones, if you still have them? Compare the conical ends of the old with the new, the answer may be there..
I would have though the OEM would have played up when it was working a week ago, but thanks for the suggestion - it is just the kind of suggestion I am looking for
So time became available today and I had another go. Absolutely no pressure at all at the bar. Could not bleed due to …er no pressure. Swapped in auto bleed nipple which did not fit. Then checked for fluid at the banjo which there was. Removed the bleed nipple completely and saw fluid rising when a little pressure applied. Put back original nipple and pop ! instant pressure at the bar and 1.5 mm + movement at the clutch. Not a Scooby what I did but result was good. Really should throw the Oberon away and not be tempted to have attempt number 9. Thanks for input guys, I tried all the suggestions
