Mhr Side Stand

  1. Hi

Am I right in thinking that there’s no sensor for the stand on the MK3 Hailwood Replicas?

    Cheers

  2. Hello.
So far as I am aware, the 900cc MHR's only came with a centre stand, at least mine did, which was not easy to use partly because of the weight of the bike. In the UK after-market side stands were available, the first one being designed by Tony Brancato of Brancato Engineering. These stands did not come with an inhibitor switch fitted.
I bought a copy of the Brancato design that did the job for a while, and then a weld on the stand support failed and I just managed to stop the bike falling on its side. Subsequently after speaking to Tony, I bought a genuine stand that was better made and was up to the job. He sold the rights for the stand to Andrew Jones at Mdina Italia, who may still be selling them. But beware of copies if you decide to buy one!
I'm not sure if the later MHR900e had a factory fitted side stand.
    Hope this helps.
    Tom.

  3. Thanks Tom

So the STAND light on the dash is redundant then unless you rig up something yourself?

  4. Hello.
My bike was a 1984 version, with the revised instrument display that was also used on the Mille version. It did not have a stand light, but did have fuel and Oil lights, however they only worked on the Mille.
Below is a link to an extract from Ian Falloon's book:
Ducati Bevel Twins 1971 to 1986: Authenticity & Restoration Guide
    By Ian Falloon.
The book provides an authoritative account of Ducati motorcycles from the period quoted in the title and covers the MHR in Chapter 7, its well worth acquiring if you propose to work on your bike. A little care needs to be exercised with the extract, because not all the pages from the book are reproduced.
    Hope it helps.
    Good luck.
    Tom.

  5. Thanks Tom

I do have the book but couldn’t find anything relating to STAND. Can you tell me which page it’s on please? The link seems to go to the 1st page.

    cheers
    Niall

  6. Niall,
The above link should take you to chapter 7 (p158) of the full book. The two types of instrument panels are showed on pages 161, 165 and 174. Page 161 explains that the instruments were used from a 900 SD so retained the stand light, but didn't have the stand.
    Good luck.
    Tom.

  7. Perfect. Thanks Tom
