Brembo Discs, Series Oro Versus Hpk?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Phill748, Jan 29, 2022.

  1. Anyone used both? I’m looking at some Serie Oro discs which are around £350, the HPK are around £550, I know they are a 1mm thicker from what I can see, but will the serie Oro still be a massive improvement on the average OE disc fitments? It’s for my R1 but same would apply stepping up from Panigale oe disc etc

  2. I had three sets of wheels for an R6 I raced for a couple of years, one with OEM discs, one Serie Oro and one HPK.

The OEM and Serie ORO were very very similar, the HPK were a marginal improvement in terms of braking power and stability (I.e. not fading) over a race but it was a small difference.

The HPK should have always been on the dry front, the Oro on the Inters and the OEM on the wet but if they ever got mixed up due to tyre changes and I had to race in the dry on the Oro or OEM it wouldn’t bother me at all.

I just bought a pair for the V2 for the TriOptions Cup this year and just at the last minute plumped for the HPK but I was very close to getting the Oro for the cost saving, that’s how similar they are in my opinion.

Have a look at wscperformance.co.uk he does both and is usually very reasonable on price. I think the HPK for the V2 were about £500 off the top of my head.

  3. I’ve just bought a pair of Hpks for the 959 off recommendations off here.
Haven’t fitted them yet and probably won’t do until mid March but the quality looks ace.
£500 is a very good price, I paid £530 for mine which was the best price I could find.

  4. I've got both hpk and oro fitted on my bikes. Biggest difference I found was the resistance on the wheel non at all with the hpk as they float alot more than the oro. I personally prefer the hpk.

  5. Got HPK’s on my V4 and IMO way better on track than the OE Brembo. Can only compare the Oro with the Italian company Braking and I prefer the Braking disc. Andy

  7. I checked with Simon at WSC out of interest as he doesn’t list them on the site. It may vary slightly according to which R1 but he said £500 for HPKs if you pay via bank transfer, £520 via PayPal with fees. Deal to be done if you buy pads at the same time.

  8. Thanks guys, I need to get and measure mine tbf, they have done 15k road miles so thinking by the time I start trackdays they will probably not like it! I had a quick look at the seem to be slightly ‘dished’ but not warped as such, so yeah I’ll probably go with Serie Oro when I get paid.

do the HPK’s rattle? My friends on his 959 rattled a lot, they may have been near service limit but that would annoy me for the bits I ride on the road

  9. Yes mine rattle but it's bit like the dry clutch. You get used to it. Almost nice the rattle as you know you got hkp discs

  10. My mate uses Wave discs, braking or Galfer I can’t remember, tbh they have been perfect for two seasons of racing but I just hate the look of them, I really do. I think I’ll go with Serie Oro to look as OEM as possible, it’s got track pads in there at the mo which won’t be helping disc life so I’ll get a decent new set of pads to go with the Serie Oro, just need eBay to unlock my money from selling loads of bits!

  11. HPK are better but it depends on whether you believe the outlay is worth the reward ultimately

  12. Having watched a retired factory endurance racer stand my Panigale V4 on its nose from 180mph at the end of the back straight at Almeria, definitely well worth the outlay :D Andy

  13. I've got HPK on the 916, work great but I recently had to change the centres/carriers as they had badly worn despite there being barely any wear on the actual discs.

They had got rattlier over time and initially I thought it was the bobbins that were worn (as on my Monster) but it was the carriers and the HPK carriers for 15mm offset, 6-hole discs are NLA from Brembo.

Luckily I got a set of carriers of the correct fit from Mode Performance so didn't need to scrap the discs.

  14. You re lucky Brembo sells center carries. MotoMaster doesn't do that due to safety concerns.
