1260 Multi Vibrations And Phone Cameras

  1. Hello everyone.

Hope you had a good weekend!

For the past 4-5 years on both my 1200 DVT and 1260 I've been using Evotech Phone mount with a fused charging cable from the battery. Been using Google Maps on various phones and this particular setup enabled me to circle Europe a few times. Never had any issues with it.

Because the more you read the "smarter" you get, I read somewhere that phone cameras are affected by the vibrations (it does make perfect sense as the modern cameras use mechanical stabilization). Because I recently bought a new phone, not wanting to damage it I reached out to Evotech to change my mount for a TomTom one and bought the Rider 500.

I did around 300 KM yesterday and as soon as arrived home I returned the TomTom to Amazon. For me Google Maps is a million times better (I do understand the advantages of the GPS, you dont use your mobile data, better connection and so on) but I cannot use it. Also TomTom seems to have issues connecting to 2 devices (headset and phone) and when it works, if you listen to music or make a call from your headset the navigation voice doesnt work). Seem to be a know issue at TomTom and reading the forums shows its an ongoing thing for a while now.

So I went back to my QuadLock mount and I was wondering if anyone here had issues with their phones, specifically the cameras attached to a Multi + QuadLock Mount? Also, I got the vibration dampener, hope it helps a bit.

    Any feedback is welcome.

    Thanks,
    Andrei

PS. For those interested in changing the sprockets and adjusting front suspension. Got the bike serviced last weekend and instead of changing the rear sprocket to a 42 I changed the front one with -1 tooth. Plus, 3 and a half turns on the suspension adjustment (as explained by the Ducati mechanic). These 2 things made the bike a whole different machine. Its unreal how this affects everything.

In the twisties, 2 gear for 90 to 180 degree turns with out any issues, 3rd gear amazing as well. This should be done by everyone upon purchasing a 1260...its fantastic!

  2. I have had the so called “vibration dampener” since quad lock first released it & it has still destroyed the optical stability on the camera on 2 iPhones, can’t say about other phones

  3. Damn..thats not good. I might need to search in some drawers an old phone just for navi then, would be a shame if Id destroy this phone.

  4. I use SP Connect mounts with the anti vibration mount on all my motorbikes and mountain bikes. I’ve done thousands of miles off-road with these mounts, and had no problems whatsoever with the camera on my phone. I’d read that the Quadlock anti vibration mount is next to useless, and am glad I went for the SP Connect instead.

  5. My iPhone xr camera was damaged when it was on my monster being used as a satnav in a Quad-Loc mount. I bought the anti vibration mount but don't trust it. I was due to upgrade my phone anyway so just kept the XR for use as a satnav. I've now bought a Garmin Zumo XT for use on my new Multistrada & my new iphone 12 will stay in my pocket!

  6. I've had to replace the camera on my iphone 11 - I used to use an Ultimate Addons case, and after six months use on the bike it was friend. I've recently switched to Quadlock (with vibration dampener) - sounds like that might be a decision I regret. It's an expensive ecosystem to buy into, so I'll be interested to find out more about the SP system.

On another note, has anyone found a solution for a waterproof charging socket yet? I actually don't think it exists. You can buy sockets with "waterproof" cover, but nothing that's weatherproof when you have a USB lead plugged in. It's something I've struggled to find a solution for, to the extent I'm considering designing my own.

  7. No problem on my 888 and Quadlock Stem mount, with vibration dampener.

  8. For around 30 Euro I can defo recomand the below (this is what I have and its perfect, for me at least).

You can probably find them on amazon.co.uk as well. Ive my charger connected to the battery using the optimate usb plug which has a lot of benefits and then I have the cable drawn through the chassis and under the fairing up to the evotech mount.

On topic, It seems that mostly Iphones are the ones impacted...replies here and on different forums seem to specify Iphone much more than any android phone.

  9. I've had a Quadlock mount above the clocks on two different adventure-style bikes. I didn't have a vibration dampener and ran iPhone X for four years without a problem. When I upgraded to an iPhone 12, I added the dampener as a precaution.

Is it possible that those who have problems are mounting theirs close to the centre of the bars or using stem mounts, thus incurring most impact through the forks?

  10. I’ll let you know; mine is mounted on the bars…

  11. That can make a lot of sense as on the bars, the frequency of the vibrations is much higher while on the Evotech or any above the dash setups isnt.

  12. I've got an iPhone 12 and Quadlock/vibration damper on my Superduke R, Quadlocks been on for around 6 months and the bikes been hammered around the Peak District every weekend. Fingers crossed no issues so far.

I note Evotech now make a bracket for the Superduke for the Quadlock mount to move your phone down below the dash and mounted off the tank rather than be mounted on the bars, will that increase/reduce vibration I'm not sure but it looks like a cleaner solution.

  13. Thanks Andrei, that’s a neat solution. I appreciate you taking the time to post the links.

  14. I've used the Quadlock with dampener on both the streetbike and the track bike and no issues with the Samsung Galaxy S20FE - must be all these frail iphones

  15. Ah the inevitable iPhone bashing, I’m surprised it took this long!!

  17. In for a penny...

I went for the pricey but effective wireless charging mount, which is weatherproof and permanently connected (it has an on/off switch in case I want to mount the phone without charging it). I'm really happy with it.

Some may say it's ridiculously expensive, but you're talking about attaching an iPhone to a Ducati...

  18. I’m yet to be convinced about the wireless charger. I’d be annoyed to spend out on it, only to find it’s not capable of providing the level of current needed to keep my battery topped up while I’m using GPS.

  19. I run mine using navigation and streaming music from the cloud to my bluetooth headset, and I still get a net charging gain (admittedly slower than if I weren't using GPS).

  20. Thanks Gary, that’s good to know. If I can convince myself of a reliable and powerful enough electric source to power it I’ll get one. Do Quadlock sell a battery cable to power it?
