848 Clutch Slipping

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by DRL, Apr 21, 2022.

  1. Hi guys so hoped on the bike a couple of weeks ago and it was difficult to get the 848 in neutral (I have an oberon slave) so I increased the span and all was well. It has felt like my bitting point was changing and I've fiddled with the span over the next few rides and now my clutch is definitely slipping o_O

I wonder if the clutch was dragging and caused some premature slippage or what's the average the clutch lasts (I know it varies with riding etc)?

Lastly, does everyone just use genuine Duc replacement clutch pack or has anyone used a pattern clutch? I don't need a slipper clutch.

  2. Anyone know the life expectancy of an 848 clutch?

  3. Aluminium clutch basket, organic or sintered friction plates ? I’ve replaced one on a 1098R at 6000 miles but generally I’d say double that. The earlier steel basket slippers on the 748R lasted a lot longer IME. Andy

  4. Sorry I meant the original clutch .... it's a wet clutch on the 848 so I thought I would be getting quite a bit of mileage out of it so I'm interested to see how long the standard clutches last?

  5. I'd expect to get well in excess of 20k miles from a clutch when just normal road riding.

  6. I thought I would get more than 13.5k out of a standard clutch..... Could it just be air trapped in the clutch lines?

  7. Ah, my mistake (again :joy:), my apologies. If you follow my earlier link to EVR, they offer plates for the wet clutch. I’ve done 45,000 on the wet clutch in my 1200 Multistrada and it’s still fine. Did flash the clash for an EVR wet slipper clutch for my track Multistrada and it's a fabulous piece of kit and not expensive in comparison to the V4 Panigale wet clutch. Andy

  8. Start with bleeding hydraulics as it should be relatively quick and easy. When was the oil last changed and was it the correct oil for an egine with a wet clutch?

  9. as above, plus - you say you have been adjusting the span on the hand operated clutch lever, if you have also done some adjustment to the small adjustment screw (not sure if yours has this provision) then you need to confirm that you have some free-play at the lever when it is at rest. People will quote different figures, but ideally you would need to see around 5 - 10mm of free-play at the end of the hand lever before resistance is felt.

  10. Glad you mentioned the change of slave bore dia correlating to change of clutch hand lever travel as this trade-off is often overlooked and it's not unknown to create another problem if rider is not that dexterous with hand use.

  11. Ok sorry for the late update I've been away ..... I re-fitted the original brake lever and bled the clutch and now all is good ..... I don't think there was any free play in the lever that was on it

My next question is that I've seen some Ducati performance levers off an 899 for sale .... will they fit my 848?
