1199 Which One?

  1. After 4 years of 1198S ownership and all its various foibles i'm looking at a Pani..thing is i cant decide whether to go for the 1199S/1299S, can someone enlighten me?...the 1198S is a cracker but i'm getting tired of the random nature of warm and hot starting, and yes i've tried everything i can to improve things, when it does start its awesome but looking like a twat at petrol stations when it does'nt is starting to niggle me.

    Budget is @£12K ish.

  2. How many miles has the 1198 done? My old one was similar until the sprag clutch finally gave up the ghost. Once replaced, it was fine. No more troubles hot/cold start. As off about 5yrs ago it was £365 for sprag, flange and gearwheel. Parts only and about 1.5 hrs to fit and replace. Only tools needed are a flywheel holding tool and a case puller. But I fashioned a case puller from an old handlebar clamp for a mirror.

You will miss the torque of the 1198. The 1299 doesnt have it. Its revier. Faster, lighter and more direct. The 1198 burns your right calf. The pani will boil yer crackers. The 1198 feels longer. The 1299 needs a tank extender to stop you sliding up and sitting on the bars under heavy braking.

I think the 1199 is even revier.

Not sure youd get a 1299S for 12k.

  3. 1199 is like a big 2 stroke. Make sure the water pump gears aren't eating each other.

  4. I'd settle for a base 1299, i never used to like the look of the panis, but they've grown on me.

  5. I still dont from the side. Front yes, side no. Im the same with v4. Front yes, side no plus its porky. My fave part of a 916/999 etc is its thin and lithe. I'm less fond of modern ducati's tbh as good as they may be.

  6. Do what I’ve done. Base 1299 then spend as you can afford on upgrading suspension. Mine now has full ohlins, the lighter S wheels and still owes me less than a similar mileage/condition 1299 s
