Was looking forward to the first big ride out of the season today up to Devils Bridge then onto the Shap Road. Got all kitted up, wheeled the bike out on to the drive way, helmet on and went to start her up, pressed the starter button and while it was cranking over, it wouldn't actually fire up!! Tried it 4 or 5 times and the starter didn't sound lazy, you could hear trying to fire up but didn't. Not wanting to drain the battery too much I gave up and went back inside feeling very disappointed. Bikes always on charge and I've been out on a few short runs this year without any problems then. First time its let me down in 16 months roughly of ownership. Can't be the battery can it? Just hope its nothing major as I think it might be out of warranty now! need to check that. Any help much appreciated, I have a video but its too large too upload.
Check the usual things. 1. Does the fuel pump start to run when the ignition is turned on? 2. Do you have a spark?
So got home from work and headed straight into the garage, been on charge all night and it fired up first time!!! Left it running for a bit and all seems fine. Switched her off and put it back on charge and the green light on my Oxford Oximiser had gone out which means its no longer fully charged. My reckoning is the battery is not holding a charge and I'm guessing a day out of starting her up and turning off all day would possibly completely flatten it. I can't see it being a stator or rectifier issue on a two year old bike can it? Anyways its running and clearly not a mechanical problem but I don't trust the battery so gonna order a new one! Question is do I go for the standard YUASA YT7B-BS or a Lithium battery ?? I have a lithium charger from my Fireblade SP I had before the V4. Any recommendations?
Are the panigale’s like the monster where you can see the voltage the bike is running at as a display mode on the dash? My monster seems to run between 13.5V and 14.5V off the rectifier idling. I’d guess if you are seeing a good running voltage then you just need a new battery.
If you go Lithium chemistry, make sure the one you buy has an integrated battery management system (BMS). That mitigates many of the issues the early LiPo’s suffered from. Andy
Yes Panigale is the same, though I forgot it did. Just turned ignition on and scrolled through to INFO where you can find battery voltage. Its currently reading 12.1v, tried starting her up so I could see what it reads while idling and it wouldn't start again!!! Now im worried
New battery fitted today, Ducati Manchester had standard Yuasa yt7b-bs in stock so in my desperation to get the bike going I bought one yesterday. They prepped it and gave it a charge and i went back and picked it up today. Got home, fitted it and turned ignition on, went into menu, info and then battery.....its reading 12.1 .......exactly the same as the 2 year old battery I've just replaced !! Bike did not start again ffs!!!!! Seriously pissed off Haven't got a clue whats going on.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with you batteries. Resting voltage at 12.1 is about right. it’s when the engine is running that the voltage should rise up
I told them at Ducati Manchester the battery had a resting voltage of 12.1 and they said that's low!!! Bit strange for a 12 volt battery but what do I know! So yeah, gonna have a word with them today about getting it booked in. Wonder how much this is going to cost me??!! Already cost me a battery thats reads the same as the old one!! Already got that feeling about wondering what I can trade it in for!!
Cellier BVT....great bloke to deal with is John. I'm not sure he does the newer bikes though, maybe worth a try.
