In reply to my request for an Enduro project I've been contacted by an admittedly embarrassed owner about his 66 plate bike. I don't think the bike is for me because I think the price is too high for the amount of unknown work required, and it's too far away to do a proper assessment. But it prompts me to ask about the recommended service schedule for the 1200. The owner believes the Desmo service is due at 18k miles or 5yrs, I'd not heard the 5yr bit. He also believes the Oil should be changed yearly regardless of Mileage, which makes sense, but also says the belts are only changed every 18K miles/5yrs as part of the desmo service. I'm not sure the belt life had been extended that much by 2016, but could be wrong. For background the 66 plate bike had only just hit 5K miles when it had it's second MOT last year, which it passed with no issues. The bike had it's initial 600 mile service early in 2017, and hasn't been touched service wise since, just ridden very sparingly all year round until just after the MOT last year, which as I mentioned had the bike at just over 5K miles. So it still has the Oil in it put in by the dealer at 600 miles in 2017. Unfortunately it's never been garaged or even covered, just left outside in all weathers and only used very occasionally for the odd short ride. So is a little cosmetically challenged. This is the sort of bike I would take on, but it would need to be cheap enough to take the risk.
Per the owners manual maintenance chart Yes on the oil at 12Months T-belts 18K/5Y Demso 18K no calendar
Had my belts done at 5yrs, 12k on the bike (16 plate Enduro) haven't had Desmo service yet. Due an oil change, might just do it myself, doesn't get used much. I'm a little shocked the one you found hasn't been serviced, garaged or even covered for so long with such little usage!
