For Sale 998 + 1098 Overseas

  1. Would appreciate some advice please.
I currently live in Hong Kong and as life becomes a little more uncertain out here I am looking to sell my 02 998 bip and my 07 1098.

These bikes are not that desirable for locals over here and more targeted towards the expat population who are currently leaving Hong Kong en masse so it’s a tough environment to be selling them. As it stands I’m not sure we are staying and don’t know where will be next for me and the family so the easiest thing is to try and sell the bikes.

I am therefore testing the waters to see if there may be anyone who would look at purchasing these overseas. They both run and ride without any issues, and although I haven’t looked into it extensively can easily be packed and shipped. If anyone is really serious we can look into pricing it up.

i am happy to provide more details and photos etc but this is really just a bit of a first foray for help and advice and if anyone may be interested.

    the bikes:
Red 02 998 with 14k km on the clock. Bike runs perfectly, a few carbon upgrades but otherwise standard, samco hoses and aluminium expansion tank which have helped keep it cool out here in the heat. Currently no cans as switching back to standard but I have carbon termis and 45/50 mid pipe if anyone is interested. some slight pitting on the forks but other than that bike in great condition. Always kept indoors since I’ve had it past
    4 years.

07 1098,26k km, Ohlins ttx rt rear shock, carbon front mudguard and hugger. Arrow exhaust but also have original. Tbh it’s too much bike for out here.

Looking for 125k hkd or 13k gbp. If I’m way off the mark I’d be interested to hear all feedback. I appreciate there are shipping costs involved etc but I feel I am pricing them aggressively enough.

thanks for the help and feedback.
    Cheers

  2. were they uk bike originally mate??

  3. Hi mate , the 998 was shipped from Japan to Hk. I am pretty sure the 1098 was shipped direct to Hong Kong. But will double check the registration doc which is in the workshop.
But no they weren’t uk bikes originally.

  4. Just thinking with import tax and registration fees ect could be costly.

  5. Would China be a more accessible market for the bikes?

  6. Unlikely except for maybe the 998. Registration hurdles are pretty rough over there. I had looked at turning the 998 into a track bike and keep it in Zhuhai but was a huge ball ache I didn’t bother.

  7. Yeah I hear you. I guess there’s probably a price that would make sense for someone to do that but it might make me wince.
I think the 1098 may be better as a track donor at the right price which would save the registration fees etc.
