Please can I have some advice here. I'd like a top box that can quickly be removed, offer secure storage and a comfortable back rest for my better half. Is it true that the ducati box is made by Givi? I like the look of the V47NN, what do you guys and dolls think? Where's the best place to buy one / see one in the flesh? Water proofing isnt really an issue as I like to stay dry these days. I await your collective wisdom.
Why not stick to the standard Ducati factory option, which meets the requirements you listed quite well plus it matches the bike and the panniers. Did you not see the one on my bike?
Got mine from this guy, call him and tell him you heard about him this forum and has said he will throw the backrest in for free, arrived next day, colour match is good, takes 2 helmets and has a very easy quick release, it is big though and the carrier is quite ugly Ducati Multistrada 1200 Givi V47 Top Box & SR312 Fitting Kit Rosso Italian Red | eBay
I must admit I was worried about the size and I did want to see one on the bike. I thought the ducati ones didn't quick release? Perhaps on the next run out (baring any more punctures) I'll take A better look at the standard ducting product.
I still have my Black GIVI E55 3 TECH for sale, complete with fixing brackets and fitting instructions. It'll take two Full Face helmets no problem. I didn't think it looked that bad on the bike. Usefulness out weighed style IMO. I was looking for around £200 If you're interested?
Standard Ducati top box does quick release as has been said. Don't know if it is value for money as a paid for accessory as mine came free.
Ducati top box turn key push red button off it comes couldn't be quicker. Mine came with the bike but believe you will be relieved of quite a few hundred quid to buy it as an accessory.
To answer your final question - yes, I believe that the Ducati one is made by Givi - it certainly appears to have exactly the same mounting as a Givi one. I have the Ducati one - quick and easy to release as other have said. Key in, quick turn and push button. Couldn't be easier. If you already have the panniers then I reckon the Ducati one is the only answer, simply because of the colour matching.
I went for the official Ducati unit, got 10% off too (after bike purchase and from different dealer). I does say Givi on the inside at the bottom but the mounting does look slightly different to the GIVI SR312 mount. Pricing it up was a bit more than the givi set but it matches the bike and looks ok as far as top boxes go.
If and when you ever sell the bike, a set of matching luggage will be a great selling point to attract buyers. The lack of it would be big negative point for a Mutley.
Here you go; Picture with my bike's Givi E55 and my mate's OE Ducati top box. I have an SW Motech setup on my bike which allows me to quickly remove not only the box but also the mounting plate. Means you can take it all off if you want, or easily swap plates and boxes between Monolock and Monokey if you want a choice of sizes. Personally I like the look of the black E55 (which has a bit of gloss to it) and I don't think the Ducati one justifies the price tag (it is a badged Givi with a more fiddly locking mechanism than my E55). You pays yer money and takes yer choices...
I have a Givi V47NN tech (carbon look inserts) complete with mounting it was less than £280 from Motorcycle Planet. Enough room for 2 full face helmets and one button release. Much cheaper than Ducati one.
I have the Ducati top box. No probs with it. Went to look at the Givi one in a dealers which had the brake light extra strip on it. That does not fit the Ducati mounting plate. Although, as said, both made by Givi. So Ducati box wont fit a Givi plate.
The Ducati box DOES fit the standard Givi plate. My other bikes have Givi boxes on and I sometimes swap them round. The Ducati box even has the Givi logo moulded inside it. To my eye anything other than the proper box on a Multi just looks wrong.
Mmmmm. The dealer took a Givi one off the shelf and it wouldn't mate to my Ducati top box plate! Was just curious to see if it would fit.
