HI all. Has anyone experienced this. Bike was performing fine but would not idle after a year of non riding (long story). Now after a ride where it kept stalling it won’t start. I had hoped getting fuel through would clean things out. When I put the key in I don’t hear the whirring (fuel pump?) when the ignition goes live. I haven’t checked fuses yet and will start with that but would be interested to hear ideas. Many thanks
Could be any number of things, As Cream says start with the battery, could also be a dodgy relay (located behind battery), if you manage to get it going and it keeps stalling etc look at getting the TPS set up correctly, the 999S i had was a pig to start and was always running rough until i got the TPS reset.
As above, so many things, but your symptoms help so (In addition to above) first things come to mind are dodgy power/earth wires going through to fuel pump, covered in detail on here, I’ve had many problems in that area, Ricky did a thread I think. Even a fuel pump that has a weak heart and decides to give up the ghost will give these symptoms. I don’t have to mention all the ECU related stories, again with similar symptoms, earth lead missing but also connector and worst of all, internal ECU corrosion et cetera.
All of the above, I'm sure from memory the relays are mounted upside down so are prone to water ingress after a good wash etc, they can be mounted the right way up though without much hassle.
Many thanks all. It’s got plenty of battery power to spin the starter so it’s likely to be a fuel issue. Which is almost certainly electrical. Because I rode it in the pouring rain and then washed it a few days later. Will keep you updated once I get the tools out.
My bet is it's one of 3 things. 1)Fuel pump Relay 2)The Relay for the Fuel Pump 3)Electrical switch thing that powers the Fuel pump.

Hi all. It’s not a fuse. I’ve taken the battery out. And can see a mess of wires. Where can I find the relay. Does anyone have any pictures. Slightly out of my depth on this one. Many thanks
@chrisw has been good at getting specific harness pictures but will have a look. Never owned 749/999 but I know as std the first one that plays up regularly is "mounted inverted", is near the battery "box" (so you are warm) and is a devil to get to.

Many thanks all for these bits of info. Looks like my relay has been repositioned to outside the box. A bit of Sunday afternoon fiddling coming up. Just to add insult to injury the electric garage door broke last night. Quite why the drive motor is mounted to a plastic bracket is beyond me. Yep it snapped.
Good news that the relay has already been repositioned - saves you a job. Have you fitted a new one yet? Be interested to hear if that cures your issue.
Also, possible fuel pump wiring issue - they are known to break down at the bend into the rubber grommet into the pump base. Initial symptoms are intermittent starting issues and cutting out. Stein Dinse do a repair loom.
Thats where mine broke , the pump base , i dug the sealant out then resealed it after i had soldered it back on.
Hi Ricky. It was the relay. Ducati sent the wrong one and the correct one arrived today and the bike is back to fully functional. Wow the battery box wiring is terrible. I am still trying to get the fairing to fit properly. I’ve noticed I am a bolt missing (not me!) which is the central one by the battery. Anyone know what size and length it is supposed to be. Looks by eye to be M4 ?
