Hi All! Ok so this may be a stupid question but … I have a 2017 MTS PP with the Ducati luggage. Love it, great, no probs! However, can you lock the top box to the rack? Seems daft you can lock the box itself, but cannot for the life of me seem to lock the actual box to the rack. Whichever way I mess around with the key you can always push the lower red button and release the box. The side panniers lock on, does the top box not? Thanks all! Pic because why the hell not! Locking the box should lock it to the rack. The red button should not operate when the topbox lid is locked.
Unfortunately not! I assumed so. It locks the box, not the box to the rack Everything is free and works a great, unless something has come adrift inside the mechanism.
Sounds like something inside is broken to me. As @duke63 says, box should snap on and the button not be pressable until key is turned in the lock.
I think, even though this is for a 2014 model, is the same top case. Looks like the hinge and buttons is a complete mechanism. Though the lock barrel itself isn't included, you'd need to transpose yours across. On eBay here. Looking at the pics on the eBay auction I reckon that the tab on top of the red button has been sheared off on yours and this is retained by the locking mechanism of the lock barrel when in the locked position. hopefully your lock barrel itself is undamaged. You'll need to take it apart and find out before ordering I suppose.
Pretty sure they're the same mechanism (but not lock barrel type) on all recent Monokeys. The mech is pretty easy to remove and have a look at. Anything broken or popped off should be easy enough to diagnose.
Ah cracking detective work, many thanks. I’ll pop it apart this avo and have a look! The barrel I think must be fine, other than locking the case to the bike it works fine. Locks the actual case itself.
