1260 Ducati Additional Led Headlights

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Pat Mills, Jun 11, 2020.

  1. Anyone on here added the Ducati additional LED Headlights onto their 1260?

On my last ride I installed Denali D 2.0 spotlights and they added a lot of light to night time driving; I am interested to know if the Ducati LED lights provide additional light or they are more decorative....

    Insight appreciated..

  2. I have the new style OEM spot lights on my 1260s I find the headlights are very good on there own but the spots just give that extra bit of wider vision (they were fitted to bike when I got it)

  3. Do you mean the spotlights or the main LEDs fitted to the S version?
The spotlights give you better visibility, but not much extra on the road. The LED main lights on the S version are fabulous.

  4. Asking about the spot lights really..

Sounds like they make you more visible but not a lot of extra light on a night ride?

  5. I'd agree with this. I have the original OEM spot lights and they are very good in my opinion, particularly from a 'visibility' point of view.

As mentioned above the standard lights are very good on their own, an order of magnitude better than the lights on my last bike, and the spots add a bit extra for night riding.

  6. Spotlights give that extra something worthy of to the point that cornering lights are imperceptible in their operation. Worthy addition.

  7. I mean the additional spot lights.....there are 2 styles, the new style came out when they released the gran tour multi

  8. good point I had not considered!

are there differences between the two as I had assumed they were the same...probably incorrectly so..

  9. I had the spotlights (Not the newer style ones) transferred from my 2015 Pikes Peak to the 1260S and even though, as Twin4Me has said, the main LED lights are brilliant, these spotlights add significant additional lighting width + depth, when riding at night, or in low light levels.
For me anyway, a definite advantage. :upyeah:

  10. I had the new OEM spot lights installed on my 2019 1260S, mostly for visibility. It won't be dark here for a few months, so I'm not sure how much extra light they will add.

  11. Thanks for the pictures!

gives me a great view of where the spotlights sit - look good position.

  12. I have a DVT with the wiring and switch for spotlights, am I right in thinking that only Ducati spots will work on that setup, or can aftermarket lights use the same connections/switch ?

  13. I think as the feature needs to be enabled via a dealer plugging in their laptop it's something of a moot point. Doubt if you'd find one willing to enable for non OEM accessory spot lights even if they did work. Obvious marketing ploy for dealer/Ducati to sell you their expensive spots...

  14. Good shout on the enabling by dealer.

I know from having Denali spots on last bike they have their own propitiatory wiring loom and switch, you can wire those in such that they come on with headlights, but would be surprised if Ducati would do this.

Anyone know what connectors are on the end of the Multi wiring loom? I know for satnav they use JST (Japanese solderless terminals) which whilst you can buy you need specialist crimpers..

  15. Sorry for resurrecting the thread but @LarsP could you shed some more light as to whether you need to visit a dealer for them to work and if they have low/high beams? (I can see that they have three wires going to the leds)

    Thanks

  16. I have the new lights in n a V2S 950

they are basically fog lights give a slightly wider beam pattern and obviously a larger front source for oncoming traffic to see you

there is no high and low beam

I assume it’s power and an on off signal

I thought about swapping the light unit with my Denalis but did not bother as wiring loom would need to be hacked and the mounting brackets are different

    would I buy them again

    probably not

  17. I would have thought that if the non-Duc lights were identical in wiring, resistance etc they would work.

Got the old style genuine ones on my 1200 Enduro and they're great!

  18. There are now members on here with plugin diagnostic tools that are capable of enabling the spotlight feature on some models. I have an OBDStar that can do this for the 1260 Multi, 1200 model is in the pipeline apparently, haven't done a firmware update recently.

Since my post above I bought some of the earlier OEM spots from a member on here. Fitted these prior to getting the OBDStar so had my dealer enable them during a service. They add a little extra breadth and depth to the already superb head lights on the 1260s. I got them mainly for the extra punchy twinkle they add when riding in daylight as an aid to my perceived presence to other road users.

  19. if you are seeking more visibility while riding at night AND making you and your Multi more visible to cars/trucks/others while riding in daylight ... i've installed Clearwater Darla LEDs on both my 2010 1200s and my 2018 1260s Multis.
the Clearwater LEDs cost a little more than the others on the market, but they are built with the best materials, and will last longer than the motorcycle they are mounted on.

super easy to install using the Clearwater supplied wiring harness, relay, and if you choose, the optional CANopener, that allows one to control all the functions of the LEDs using the left handlebar switch group.

below are the programing functions of the CANopener.

    you will not be disappointed.

    Clearwater CANopener Instructions:

    TSC = Turn Signal Cancel

    1. On/Off

Toggle these by holding the TSC button for two seconds

    Mode 1 – On

    Mode 2 – Off

    2. Dimming control

Step 1: To enter into dimming mode, first press and release the TSC button.

Step 2: Press the DOWN button for 2 seconds, or wait for the lights to flash. The brightness level can then be adjusted by press UP/DOWN button.

Step 3: To exit dimming mode, press and release the TSC button.

    3. High Beam Mode

The lights can be programmed for three modes of operation in conjunction with high beams.

Toggle these modes by pressing and releasing the TSC button, holding the front brake, then pressing and releasing the high beam five times.

    Mode 1 – Off

Mode 2 – All lights turn on 100% when the high beam is pressed

Mode 3 – All lights will flash for 2 seconds when pressing and releasing high beam 3 times

    4. Horn Mode

The lights can be programmed for three different modes when the horn is pressed.

Toggle these modes by pressing and releasing the TSC button, holding the front brake, then pressing and releasing the TSC 5 times.

    Mode 1 – Off.

Mode 2 – All lights turn on 100% when the horn is pressed.

Mode 3 – All lights will flash when the horn is pressed.

  20. Crumbs, I'm sure they're good with all those different functions but I for one will be sticking with my standard on/off Ducati lights. There are enough switches and functions without all that to deal with. Just my opinion.
