Hi everyone, I need a new instrument panel unit for a 2007 ST3S (ABS). The part number for my bike is 40610531C, but I cannot find one anywhere. A Ducati dealer has a new 40610521C for sale, and the Ducati micro fiche says it’s also for a 2007 ABS. They are hesitant to sell it as they say it’s not the correct part. I have not been able to find a parts cross reference list. Surely there can’t be any difference between 2 bikes of the same spec and year can there? The issue is that it would a very expensive mistake if it were wrong. Does anyone know why there are different part numbers and how I might determine if it’s compatible? Many thanks John.
To add to the above, it seems that the Ducati dealer may have been using the wrong micro fiche. I looked at at www.bike-parts-ducati.com and their micro fiche suggest that part 40610521C is for the 2007 non ABS bike. They say that the 2006 ABS part is 40610302D. I wonder if this part would be OK, as there is one for sale on eBay….. Confusing.
As far as I can make out the ABS dash is 40610531C and the non-ABS dash is 40610521C. The difference between them is the ABS warning light. On the ABS bike there is no connection between the ABS unit and the dash but the ABS unit does have 2 connections to the ECU which must relay the ABS info to the dash through the Canbus. Otherwise all connections to the dash are the same. I would think the dash would work but wouldn't' show a warning if they ABS was faulty. There could possible be a CEL warning though as the ECU would be expecting a signal from the ABS unit which it isn't getting.
Thanks Derek, You are truly a font of knowledge. I think I will play safe and continue the search for the original part, because knowing my luck it won't work. With only one years production, they are very thin on the ground. I still wonder what differs between the 2006 part 40610302D, and the 2007 40610531C, but don't want to risk it.
