I am just about to fit Stompgrips to my SF.I have read the instructions but wonder if there are any useful tips from members who have fitted them before.Thankyou.
As bradders said, make sure the tank is clinically clean first. If an edge isn't stuck down properly, you'll get water and dirt in there, then it'll just gradually get worse. And look poo!
IPA would be better if you have some or know a mate who is a bit OCD with their bike & cleaning / polishing.
Spotlessly clean hands as well as the tank Mervyn, I recall another member saying he got dirty fingerprints as he rushed the job.
Echo all the above about cleanliness that is the real trick, clean tank really well first with Isopropyl Alcohol, I think Maplins may sell it but your local chemist should be able to help you out too. You might need to answer some questions and get suspicious looks. I also wore nitrile gloves, to avoid getting paw prints on the adhesive, which you want to avoid. Check the date stamp on the pack should be under 2 years old. Keep the packaging in case there is an issue as Stomp Grip will want to see it. Powerful hair dryer or better heat gun on hand for warming tank and grips. Depending on how anal you are about install you might want to place the individual pieces on the tank first without removing the backing and tape them into position with masking tape. Then make a line with the masking tape on the tank to give you a guide as you put them on. Heat up the tank and grip, just warm, start where convenient and peel off just a bit of grip and stick to the tank, then pull the backing off and press the pad onto the tank as you go, occasionally still using hot air to keep grip flexible. Push out any air bubbles as you go. At the end give it a final once over with the gun and press them down. That's just the way I did it, coz I'm cack handed, if I had just peeled them off and stuck them on they would probably have ended up on the fairing. John
thankyou John for that very informative method of fitting.Sounds very sensible approach and I shall follow it as best as I can.
