Hi I am renovating a Ducati 600SS and am missing one of the original gold fairing allen bolts (the ones with the slightly splayed head). So if you have one or know of anyone who has and would be willing to part with it for a small consideration then please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Which ones do you mean............? Nose to lowers are large diameter button head allen socket type Sides should be Low head socket cap type..........these sit in a large (20-25mm?) gold anodized aluminium washer with a recess for the bolt head. Underneath.........F-knows, but looking at the parts manual, they should be similar to the nose to lowers type. AL.
I have the large 20-25mm gold anodised washers with the recess for all the fairing fixings, i.e. 2 each side for the front fairing and 2 each side for the seat panels, making a total of 8. I thought I had 7 of the gold M6 x 20mm fixings with the slightly splayed head; but in fact have only 5. So I need either 3 further fixings like the ones (M6 x 20mm gold allen socket head) I have and not 1 as I originally thought.
The proper bolts are still available from a dealers although they are all plain silver stainless now. The zinc plate ones have been deleted. I got new ones from Moto Rapido and are not expensive. The two at the front are longer to go through the cotton reel.
Thanks Gilps, but I would rather have the gold ones if possible. As Arquebus points out if these are not OEM for the SS then the chances are I may be able to find a few more to make up a full set of 8. Failing that I guess I'll have to consider using M6 Stainless Steel.
PaulMIM, I am also after a seat cowl for the 600SS so if you come across one of those then let me know. Any condition will do as all the body panels are being rubbed down and refinished.
The bolts you show don't give an indication of which material they are...........for all we know, they could be anodised titanium......... The OEM bolts are best described as large diameter shallow button head with an allen socket (apart from the ones that sat in the large anodised ally washers, which were low head socket cap bolts)..............actually they should all really be called screws rather than bolts. The OEM ones were steel but plated with a gold finish...........what that finish is, I don't have a clue........possibly cadmium plating. Your quick and easy way out............(and the cheapest) is to get stainless button socket cap head, which are a bit too deep IMO, or flanged button head socket cap which are flatter...........and paint them gold if you want to.............and get or make some plastic or nylon washers to go behind the heads..........I made some from a clear ice cream tub. Your bolts in the pic can be got from various places with some searching, but if you have a look at ProBolt (most expensive) you might be able to identify them. AL
I have done a bit of searching and I believe that they are titanium and it looks like I can get some to match them exactly off ebay as they are used for MTB's. So looks like case solved. Thanks to all those who chipped in etc.
