****999 Biposto SCAM ALER*****

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by 749maybe, May 18, 2012.

  1. Please be aware of a scam that is on ukbike.com and motorcyclesupermarket.com although i am sure these are not the only sites. Listed is HF54 FEX, 999 Biposto with full service history, belts done in Feb, MOT, all keys etc etc listed at £3000 or £2900.

Out of curiosity and eager to snap a (too good to be true) bargain I emailed the seller, Theresea Swallow. Apparently she is in Australia and the bike is with a shipping company who are holding it for her and she's after a quick sale.

I emailed ukbike.com copying them in on the email between me and the seller saying I was interested in the bike and the owner had confirmed it was still available. They mailed back saying that the bike is being held and they would need a bank to bank transfer for the full amount, they would then deliver the bike to me with all docs free of charge. I would have 24 hours to decide if i wanted to keep the bike or return it. If I keep it, they will release funds to the seller, if I reject the bike they'll refund my money in full and collect the bike free of charge!!

The money had to be transferred to a private bank account - branch address and sort code do not match, address given for the location of the bike doesnt exist in google maps and I also offered £2700 and they accepted - for a 54 plate 999!!!

Please all, do not get caught out.

  2. Although thinking about it now you've probably all got Ducatis anyway and wouldn't get caught out buying one. "D'oh!"

  3. did you part with your £2700 or just see how much they would take off you?? there are a lot of scams like this..a friend at work wanted to buy a 1964 alfa romeo guiletta car that needed doing up for £9000 (mint ones go for £50-60k) but the URL of the page it referred to was not ebay but looked just like it..anyway they wanted bank to bank transfer before shipping too..but he saw through it and ebay reported it to the police..

    bastards!!!!

  4. Thankfully not, i had my suspicions initially then had it confirmed when I offered even sillier money! - ukbike.com mailed me back and confirmed that this is a scam although there is nothing they can do other than block the email addresses and wait for it to crop up again. Bloody useless.

  5. Tracked the ip address of the emails being sent and they come from Richmond, Washington, USA and not Australia where the seller is supposed to be. Amazing that.

  6. Its still on there too, on the front page!

  7. You do realise that this isn't a uncommon thing don't you? There will be thousands of these adverts all over the net every day.
