Cal Ducati rider 14 - 15

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by kope999R, Aug 1, 2013.

  1. I suspected this a while ago when it was said Cal was looking for a "holiday" home in Tuscany. I can't think of anything better than a British rider on a ducati. I just hope the bike improves.

  2. Just got the official press release through from Ducati UK. I'll get something written up for the front news page by the end of the weekend ....not that it will say anything new

  3. Loving the positive outlooks on this thread.

one mans pessimism is another's realism, just as one mans optimism is another's delusional

personally, he'll be beaten by Dovi time and again and be lucky with top 8. And imagine being beaten by Smith on a Tech 3 yam...

  4. It makes sense for him to go for a factory ride and for Ducati to have a Brit riding one of their bikes (unless he starts publicly complaining about how shite it is, in which case they'll dump him).

  5. Well, I'm firmly on the side of the glass is half full. Hope he's got Casey's phone number so he can ring him up and ask how to ride the bloody thing.

I suspect the answer will be: "You ride it right at the very limit of its capabilities all the time, no half measures, no pussy footing, no poncing about saying it's not this or that, just ride the fecking thing 'til the wheels fall off."

    Shit or bust.

  6. No one could accuse you of optimism bradders. I believe you are underestimating our Cal.

  7. I was being optimistic, nearly said top 10 ;-)

Love to be proved wrong, the idea of a Brit on a red bike on the top step :upyeah:

  8. I believe that Cal is doing superbly this season and if Ducati produce a half- decent bike next year he will be certainly in the top four places.

  9. He'll be first on your list for MCN Fantasy net year then ;)

  10. Not really bradders, keep up the optimism though. Can I ask you what you expected the man to achieve this year? Don't you believe he has done well?

  11. Think he's done great, didnt say otherwise, leading satellite of any team and has gone from a follower to a passer. Think his bike is the same type of satellite as Bradl, ie a tenth back from a factory, but on the Ducati he will be no where. He's just learned (by his own admission) how to ride the Yam so why think he'll jump on and do-a-Stoner on the Ducati?

  12. I'm not that stupid bradders. I didn't say he would jump on the Ducati and win the world championship like Stoner. Indeed who could?

  13. Fig could ;-)

  14. Didn't Stoner go from the LCR Honda to winning the championship first year out on the ducati? I'm not saying cal is the next stoner, we all know that's the little Marquez fella. The vast majority of UK bike fans would love to see cal win races and the championship. He may win a race with tech 3, but he would never win the title (although from next year, its all Marquez - unless he gets injured) cal seems to to have have taken the only wise business decision at this stage of his career. Risk it all for the 2015 season. Good luck to him :upyeah:

  15. I can't agree with that. Cal has made waves by hitting the podium this season, and he would certainly make waves if he got there on a red bike. The only time a podium doesn't count is when you're expected to be there.

All pie in the sky though. Audi ain't the great white saviour of Ducati's motogp campaign, they're too busy making the company as a whole work in a reliable and profitable way to be concerned with one small aspect of it. Ducati will find their way with the race bike, it's just a case of when. And I don't think the 'when' will be during Cal's tenure. I hope I'm wrong.

  16. Cal's saving grace may be that Audi take it persoanlly its failing, and chuck everythung behind it. Problem is, its like Le Man v F1. Audi do what sells cars, diesel winner?! And will be same for bike imho so WSBK and BSB etc will be where its at

Hopefully great news for Wilf & co if not for Cal

Plus thinking about remuneration, what cost Cal v many of the other top 6 riders?! Suspect considerably less

for cash and his point in career, probably the right choice

  17. How many doubters said Lewis Hamilton wouldnt win a race this year!! all i can say is good luck Cal

  18. Cal's cash will come from the sponsors rather than Ducati themselves. How long the sponsors are prepared to stick around without a winner though, is a different matter.

  19. Not sure anyone has not wished him luck on this thread...just that he will need a large peice of it! If he does well and succeeds, it will set him up nicely for after Moto GP tho

  20. Well, I say congratulations to Carl. 6 factory seats in the whole Moto GP paddock, and he has got one. Top man.
